1. Ultima Thule, Part I 2. Ultima Thule, Part II
This truly is an amazing find. This record is genuinely rare and if it turns up at all it is invariably in very poor condition - a definite contender for 'wrecked but rare' status.
On a recent buying trip to Italy we met with a former label executive who was selling the last remains of his collection, accumulated over the past three decades. The majority of his records had already been sold but he had a few gems that he'd kept back for a final flurry, including this copy of Ultima Thule.
All the records he still had were as near to Mint as you could hope to find. Most had never been played and were stored with the discs outside the sleeves to prevent ringwear and seam splits. This copy of Tangerine Dream's Italian debut single was no exception and to call it Mint condition is no overstatement. Italian records, and European singles in general, are notoriously hard to find in decent condition. The thin paper sleeves do not stand up to repeated use and unless the discs are stored separately you can guarantee that seam splits and ringwear will occur.
The vinyl disc shows no evidence of play whatsoever. The outside edge of the disc has the tell-tale thin shavings of excess vinyl still intact and not worn off from repeated use. The matt black label is perfect and the silver text is clearly printed.
The all-important picture sleeve is unique to the Italian release. It came out four years after the single was released in Germany and the artwork is stunning - much more desirable than the simple black and silver plain text of the German issue. The back cover shows full colour images of the Atem and Zeit album covers. There are no seam splits, no ringwear fade and the paper stock retains vibrant colours with no fading or paper loss.
You could not upgrade this copy even if you wanted to, and we can confidently state that you won't want to anyway. It's the best you will ever see...
