Eric Clapton Fender Stratocaster - EC Signature Edition - Autographed US guitar

Back in 1988, Fender offered to create a Signature Series Stratocaster for Jeff Beck and he rejected the idea. Fender then approached Eric Clapton with the same offer and he accepted.
Eric decided to have Fender replicate his then favourite guitar, “Blackie”.
NB - The original “Blackie” was eventually sold at the Christie’s Auction House in 2004 for $959,500 !
There are some significant differences between the original “Blackie” & the eventually manufactured EC Signature Series Strat, as requested by Eric & applied by Fender, these were as follows :-
Blackie had a stock Fender neck, where the EC series had a 'V' profile to replicate the profile of Eric's favourite Martin acoustic & stock Fender pickups where the EC series have Fender Lace Sensor pickup.
The final production model was made available to purchase in 1990 & this is one of those original specification Strats - The current version now has the Fender 'Noiseless Vintage' pickups instead.
The Guitar :-
The neck is one-piece maple construction with a “Soft V” shape, a satin polyurethane finish, 22 frets and small headstock with facsimile 'Eric Clapton' signature. The frets are carefully positioned to allow the action to be set very low without creating any buzzing.
It has a white single-ply scratchplate with master volume, two tone controls and a 5-way pickup selector switch. The original prototype had 14db boost but Eric wanted more so Fender then created a prototype with three Fender Gold Lace Sensor pickups and a circuit that had 25db boost in the midrange at around 500 Hz instead. This was the model that went into production.
The body of the guitar is in Alder with a glossy polyurethane finish in 'Candy Green'.
The tuning machines are Fender/Gotch vintage style.
The sustain of the guitar is designed to be excellent, much of this has to do with the solid construction and joining of the neck as well as the blocked tremolo.
These models still currently retail at £1300 (about $2000) !

Serial Number SE 903419, indicating 1989 manufacture.
It appears to have been set up for .009 guage & the action is ridiculous!
Very low & perfectly set up.
This item is a workhorse - it is completely 'played in' & obviously used.
Given the degree of aging to the scratchplate, tuning pegs & control knobs it is safe to assume that this guitar has also been gigged.
The neck frets show little wear & are still a very long way from needing re-finishing or stoning.
There are a couple of chips to the body laquer, but nothing that you would not expect from a fifteen year old worked guitar - very nice indeed.
The guitar will require a replacement tail strap peg.
[The top 'E' string is also missing, but whoopy-doo :-)]
The guitar has been clearly signed in gold marker pen just behind the bridge/trem assembly & dated '91.
The signature itself is clear, bold & totally unworn.
This item is housed in a used generic red fur lined ply Strat hard case.
All in all a fantastic item for work, rest or play.
A superb guitar in great 'light vintage' condition & a fantastic collectable all in one !
