This really is quite something & possibly unique !
The poster has been stored quad folded since being 'liberated' from the Canterbury Odeon over twenty five years ago and is in amazing condition. The band at the time being Robert Smith, Michael Dempsey, & Laurence [Lol] Tolhurst.
The poster is landscape styled & printed in black & white.
The band logo is central at the top above a superb white bordered rollercoaster picture with the words 'ON TOUR' in black on the left of the image.
Below the image, also to the left are the words 'APPEARING AT' with space below for the venue to add the information. This, handwritten in red, reads 'Canterbury Odeon - Saturday 16th June - Tickets £1.25 advance / £1.50 door'.
Condition :-
These posters were often found stapled to a noticeboard just inside the venue to inform people visiting other shows of upcoming events. Part of the evidence of its liberation from just such a display are the presence of 1cm staple marks at points in from the four corners. This, naturally enough, has left small tears at these points, but this must have been very carefully done as the poster is still fully intact & the marks would be very difficult to see once framed.
On very close inspection, you can see the remains of six further staple holes - two at the bottom, two at the top & two apparently randomly central to peg the picture. This was done in an attempt to keep the poster on the display until the gig date ! As before, these would be almost invisible when framed.
Printed on thick stock paper, there are NO rips or tears to the outer edges or corners.
The only evidence of being over a quarter of a century in age is the yellowing of the paper stock.
There are some blu-tack oil marks around the border of the poster where the original gig trophy was prouly displayed on a fan's wall at some time but apart from this & the evidence of the quad fold storage these are the only blemishes.
To find an item like this AT ALL is amazing. To find one in as good condition as this even more so.
Given the gig & time period it was, a week before 'Boy's Don't Cry' was released, it is a miracle that it even made it out of the gig without being shredded in the competition.
A fantastic & quite probably unrepeatable item which we are proud to be able to offer !
