Italy is notorious for creating some wonderfully different sleeves and issues to those released elsewhere in the world but, as with other European countries, condition has always been a huge problem. Finding a Mint condition Italian record from nearly 30 years ago is a very tall order indeed.
The cover on the Italian single is unique, almost a miniature version of the Adolescent Sex album cover. The textured paper surface is quite rough, which usually leads to noticeable scuffs and wear to the black ink background. This copy is simply stunning, retaining a glorious reflective shine - it's been so well cared for from new, by its previous one-time owner, that it almost looks as if it is brand new! The red JAPAN title is emblazoned across the front cover, against the black background it has incredible visual impact. The title 'Don't Rain On My Parade' is printed in silhouette against a typically Japanese-looking blood red sun, with five illustrated facial images of each band member arcing from top to bottom.
The back cover mirrors the front, with the 'Stateline' title appearing in silhouette this time. The back cover also carries the following credit: 'Distribuzione: DURIUM S.P.A. - MILANO - MADE IN ITALY'.
This is, quite simply, the best condition picture cover for this issue that you are ever likley to find - you will never need to upgrade it, even if you could!
The matt black record labels are also in near perfect condition. The large centre hole is bordered with a silver lower-case 'd' - the logo representing the Durium Marche Estere label subsidiary of Hansa.
The vinyl looks to be in near MINT condition. Both sides display some faintly visible surface marks. We sound graded the single at high volume: Don't Rain On My Parade sounded superb, with sharp vocals, deep bass and a fairly loud cut from the master. Some minor surface noise was audible on the quiet introduction to Stateline, but once the guitars and drums kicked in the sound was crystal clear and, again, was cut loud from the master tape. The bass really kicks. For pure listening pleasure the UK pressing is still the best, but for an Italian pressing this is probably the closest you'll find to a truly mint condition record.
