Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
1969 was a busy period for David Bowie. Following the UK release of Space Oddity on July 11th he travelled to Malta to attend the International Song Festival on the 25th. During the festival, held at the Hilton Hotel, he performed two songs. One was a Maltese song to which he had penned English lyrics, the other his own composition When I Live My Dream. He was voted second, beaten by Spanish entrant Christina!
As has been well documented he also gave an impromptu solo performance for the crew of the USS Saratoga which was in port at the time.
This personal telegram is dated July 25th, the day of the International Song Festival, and typically for a Briton abroad it's about the weather! Back in 1969 we didn't have mobile phones, text messages or e-mail; telegrams were the means by which messages could be relayed relatively quickly around the world. Addressed to Angela Barnett, Flat 1 24 Foxgrove Road, Beckenham, Kent, it reads simply "Bloody Hot Love Bowie".
Nine months later, on March 20th 1970, Angela Barnett became Mrs Angela Bowie! A wonderful, personal, and truly unique piece of memorabilia.
