MIKE OLDFIELD Don Alfonso (Supremely rare 1975 Italian 7" featuring David Bedford on vocals and backed with In Dulci Jubilo (For Maureen). This is probably the rarest edition of Don Alfonso and it's only the second time we've managed to find a copy! The vinyl is VG condition, displaying obvious surface marks. FURTHER NOTES ON CONDITION

Whilst nowhere near Mint condition, this supremely rare record would still make an attractive addition to your Mike Oldfield collection.

The black and white Virgin labels are in near perfect condition on both sides, with the standard red SIAE Italian tax stamp on side 1. Visually the record looks to be in Excellent condition.

Italy is notorious for creating some wonderfully different sleeves and issues to those released elsewhere in the world but, as with other European countires, condition has always been a huge problem. Finding a Mint condition Italian record from 30 years ago is a very tall order indeed.

The cover on the Italian issue is unique. It depicts a black and white picture of Mike with long, shoulder-length hair; he has his hands clasped in front of his face and is holding a cigarette. The simple titles 'MIKE OLDFIELD' and 'DON ALFONSO' stand out in bright red letters across the top of the sleeve. The top-opening of the sleeve has many creases and two small tears. At some stage a price sticker has been removed from the top right corner, leaving visible glue residue and paper loss. There are numerous age spots, most notable down the left side. The ringwear impression is slight, but visible nonetheless. The right edge seam has split from the top down - about 5" in length. The left edge seam is intact and unsplit, although the glue is beginning to lose its fastness. The back cover is similarly affected by the splits and the red background highlights the ringwear and corner creases to a greater degree than the front.

If you are waiting for a truly Mint condition Don Alfonso Italian sleeve then this copy is not for you. However, this record very rarely appears for sale at all, and when it does it doesn't often come any better than this. It may, at least, fill an important gap in your collection until you find another opportunity to upgrade.
