| The emergence of strong solo female artists in the 1960s traces back to late 50s, early 60s girl groups and to
female soul singers. Girl Groups were a highly popular facet of Rock & Roll, they had a wide appeal and their
style was easily adapted by producers, such as Phil Spector or lyricists like those of The Brill Building.
As Rock & Roll's influence fell away in the mid 1960s to the Brit Invasion and to traditional soul the typical Girl Group style disappeared also.
