It Goes On is the debut album from Manchester four-piece Westside Cowboy, produced by Loren Humphrey and recorded at Greenmount Studios in Leeds. The band, Jimmy Bradbury, Reuben Haycocks, Aoife Anson O'Connell and Paddy Murphy, formed just three years ago without so much as a plan to play a gig, building their sound around a single guiding rule: keep it simple, and if a song has too many chords, you're doing it wrong. That instinct pulled them toward the directness of early rock and roll, Lonnie Donegan, The Beatles and The Velvet Underground, and it shows on opener "Kick Stones (The Boys)," which the band shaped using a live recording of the Velvet Underground's "What Goes On" as a reference point, taking a big, sprawling '70s rock idea and reworking it through their own scrappier lens. Since forming, the band have moved quickly: winning Glastonbury's Emerging Talent Competition, playing the televised Woodsies Stage, and touring with Black Country, New Road and Geese, ahead of upcoming headline shows at London's O2 Kentish Town Forum and Manchester's Albert Hall.
