style="color:#D4AF37">Gold Vinyl.
Released on 21 May 1976, Agents of Fortune
transformed Blue Öyster Cult from a respected cult act into a
major concert draw, driven by "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," the
band's signature recording and highest-charting single.
Written by lead guitarist Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser while
contemplating his own mortality, the songblends a hypnotic
guitar figure with lyrics built around eternal love transcending
death, complete with an explicit Romeo and Juliet reference in
its bridge, and was later ranked number 405 on Rolling
Stone's list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. The album
also features punk poet Patti Smith, who co-wrote
and sang on "The Revenge Of Vera Gemini" with drummer
Albert Bouchard, while she was dating band member Allen
Lanier. Agents of Fortune reached number 29 on the
Billboard 200 and was certified platinum, marking the
commercial high point of the band's career. Picture sleeve
with hype sticker, factory sealed) )
