Originally released in 1970, this double album broke new ground by fusing jazz with rock, funk, and avant-garde experimentation, laying the foundation for the genre of jazz-rock fusion. Featuring an ensemble of up to twelve musicians - including Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Joe Zawinul, Jack DeJohnette, and many more - the sessions captured a radical rejection of traditional jazz structure in favour of sprawling textures, layered improvisation, and electric instrumentation.
