| Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
This historically important gig at Dublin's Project Arts Centre was only the second of five at which U2 played this venue between 16th March 1978 and 1st August 1979. The actual dates were:
- 16th March 1978 - 25th May 1978 - 18th September 1978 - 17th February 1979 - 1st August 1979
It is widely believed that U2 performed a cover of Wire's 'Mannequin' on the night of this gig, although the actual set list does not seem to be accurately documented so this is by no means a fact.
The bill, which measures 8 1/4 inches x 11 1/2 inches (A4), reads as follows:
PROJECT ARTS CENTRE
8.00 "HOW TO CONTROL LUCK" Composition Improvisation with ROGER DOYLE. 50p
8.30 Concert with THE GAMBLERS, U-2 and THE SCHOOL KIDS. £1
THURS NITE CONCERT 25TH MAY
39 EAST ESSEX STREET ~ DUBLIN 2
Paul McGuinness was first introduced to the band, in May 1978, by Hot Press journalist Bill Graham, an ardent champion of the Irish indie music scene, and this was the first gig at which Paul McGuinness saw the band perform live. He subsequently became their manager, a position which he retains to this day. In fact, as the band themsleves have said, McGuinness is virtually the fifth member of the band!
That was over 30 years ago. The rest, as they say, is history.
