JANIS JOPLIN Janis Joplin's Greatest Hits (2022 UK/EU 10-track LP pressed on Black Vinyl. This collection draws on every phase of Janis Joplin's short but genre-defining career, from her work fronting Big Brother & The Holding Company on "Piece Of My Heart" and "Summertime," through the Kozmic Blues Band's "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)," to her final recordings with the Full Tilt Boogie Band. Among those, "Me And Bobby McGee," recorded just days beforeher death in October 1970 and released posthumously in January 1971, became Joplin's only number one single, and only the second posthumous chart-topper in US chart history after Otis Redding's "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay." Songwriter Kris Kristofferson didn't know Joplin had recorded his song until after she died; hearing it for the first time, Record World called it "a perfect matching of performer and material." The recording was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and ranked among Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The set also includes "Ball And Chain" and "Cry Baby." Picture sleeve, factory sealed. Recommended).
