Originally releasedin 1966by Chess Records during the 1960s folk revival, John Lee Hooker stands apart from others in the series - where companion releases by Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and others drew on compilations of older recordings, The Real Folk Blueswas newly recorded in May 1966 in Chicago. Hooker was his inimitable and spontaneous self, reworking older material and improvising new pieces in the studio, accompanied by Detroit guitarist Eddie Burns and Chicago sidemen Lafayette Leake and S.P. Leary. The result is one of the most direct and unguarded documents in his catalogue. Housed inside a tip-on jacket gatefold picture sleeve with liner notes by Ralph Bass, factory sealed. Highly recommended).
