space disco, 'Underwater' was recorded by German composer,
musician and audio engineer Harry Thumann at his custom-built
Country Lane Studios in Munich. Blending synthesisers with an
energetic brass and strings ensemble, the track stands out for
Thumann's integration of early MIDI sequencing, complex percussion
and rich symphonic synthesiser layering - a combination that helped
define the sound of the era. Originally featured on Thumann's 1979
debut album <I>American Express</I>, 'Underwater' peaked at
number 17 on the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart and reached
number 6 in Italy, where it gained additional cultural traction as the
intro theme for the long-running sports television programme <B>La
Domenica Sportiva</B> between 1979 and 1981. A new generation of
listeners discovered the track when it was featured on <I>K109 The
Studio</I>, the fictional disco radio station in <B>Grand Theft Auto
