This legendary album seldom surfaces on the collector's market & when it does it isn't often in this amazing condition.
Recorded in New York in December 1956 & featuring the cream of the East Coast set :-

This issue is on the predominantly white Riverside label with 'Released By' text & light blue box, indicating a 1957 first pressing. This label was replaced with a mainly solid blue label the following year.
The Riverside pressings were reknowned for their quality & deep grooves.
Condition :-
The vinyl is superb with only light inaudible surface marks to show for its nearly fifty years. The deep grooves of this pressing ensure that surface noise is negligible, even between tracks.
The labels are clean & bright with just some slight yellowing in places, but this is insignificant.
The sleeve is fantastic with minimal shelfwear.
The back pasted slick has darkened slightly with age, but is unscuffed & undamaged. I've only mentioned it for completeness' sake as it's so marginal it really won't bother anyone !
The front laminate is clean & bright, retaining its shine with no cracking at the spine.
There is some light age yellowing at the opening, but nothing significant.
The only obvious defect is about 5mm laminate loss in the bottom left hand corner where it has cracked with age. Other than that, edge scuffing is negligible & even the corners have not suffered unduly.
All in all an incredible copy that was obtained from the vast personal collection of the former Director of Publicity & Marketing for [The] Blue Note in the USA, so is actually a part of Jazz history in more ways than one - Fantastic !!
