The first thing that you will notice about this set is that ALL of the albums are on the Parlophone label with no Apple pressings at all. This design Parlophone label is unique to South Africa & has the familiar '£' sign embellished with what appears to be a stack of bricks coiled around it - I'm sure that they are not, but it does make this logo unique.
As regards content, they all mirror the British pressings of the albums with identical tracklistings to the UK issues. The box is similar to the UK issue, but a slightly 'smoother' texture.
The main differences are in the sleeve layouts, which are often markedly different to their UK counterparts. All the sleeves are matte - no laminates at all. Every sleeve is a unique variant but some sleeves are very different.
A few of the notable differences :
PLEASE PLEASE ME
White 'bar' at the top of the front of the sleeve with EMI & Parlophone logos in the top right.
A HARD DAYS NIGHT
Front of the sleeve is PURPLE, not blue.
SGT PEPPER
Non gatefold & a wierd combination of what appears to be the US style front with the UK style back. No insert.
THE BEATLES
Parlophone label. Non embossed, non printed front of sleeve - It is plain white. The only markings on the outer of the gatefold are 'STEREO' printed in the back top right & 'THE BEATLES PCSJ(S)7067/8' down the spine in gold lettering. No Inserts.
YELLOW SUBMARINE
Parlophone label.
ABBEY ROAD
Parlophone label. Logos on front of sleeve with catalogue number & 'STEREO' at the top of the front in white. White 'bars' top & bottom of the rear of the sleeve.
LET IT BE
Parlophone label, therefore no Apple on the back.
RARITIES
Another purple, rather than blue sleeve.
CONDITION :-
All of the albums are free from major defects, with only light inaudible surface marks to indicate play. Some of the sleeves shows storage marks with some edge scuffing & the occasional break at the top where the vinyl has moved over time, but all are basically EX+ & in amazing condition for an item this old from this part of the world. The box itself shows only light wear at the corners.
All in all, a fantastic copy !!
