Released on May 30th 1966, this Japanese original Odeon pressing is simply outstanding in every respect. Purchased from its one-time original owner, we are sure you will never find a better copy anywhere, especially one that is complete with the impossible-to-find competition postcard!
The vinyl is absolutely Mint. The matt black labels betray a solitary spider mark around the spindle area on each side, indicating just one play in this record's 39 year life. This fact was confirmed by the original Japanese owner, a former EMI executive, who stated that he only played it once and then stored it away. The glossy gatefold picture cover is equally impressive. Bright, unfaded colours inside and out, complete 8-page photo and lyric booklet secured with the original metal staples, and the very rare red and yellow BEST! Vol,2 obi in perfect condition.
As if all that were not enough, the best is yet to come! When this record was first issued it came with a 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" competition postcard. The prize for the first 2000 entries was a free ticket to see The Beatles perform live at Budokan in Japan in 1966. Naturally, the vast majority of these postcards were mailed in for the chance to win a ticket, so very few survive today. This one was never mailed because its original owner worked for EMI, so he was able to attend the concert anyway! The double-sided postcard even has an original 5 Yen stamp attached.
This is a truly outstanding example and will not disappoint. Such an opportunity does not come along very often. With such provenance, exceptional condition and complete with both obi and competition postcard this record really is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to obtain this Japanese original, as it would have been issued on its day of release.
