Having been away for a few years were you surprised by the reaction to the last album? DB: Yes, and very pleasantly so. When you go away and then come back, you hope the fans will be there. We inevitably lost some, but the word is spreading and they're coming back, not as fast as I'd like them to, but I'm not an overly patient man...SATS is still selling consistently so it is working. So many of the bands that started the same time as you guys have since fallen away, what do you attribute your longevity to? DB: Good tunes, being very good live, and having a lot of hair products to keep Ben's tresses so attractive to women. I read on the official site www.thunderonline.com that there is to be a flourish of Terraplane reissues coming soon. Are you involved in this in any way or is it record company cash in? DB: The answer to both questions is yes. They're cashing in and we're consulting to ensure the style and content is as good as it can be. Don't honestly know why though, it was so long ago... I can't believe anyone cares now. I thought Behind Closed Doors was a really strong album, but with the exception of River Of Pain it never gets much of an outing live, why is that? LM: It did at the time of release. We played lots of it live on the tours for BCD and Stand Up still features in a headline set now. The trouble is simply one of mathematics, with each new LP it gets harder to choose the set. You're increasingly torn between promoting new LPs and having to play crowd pleasers. Nice problem though. How do you pick your set lists? Do you build it around 6 or 7 must have tunes? And how democratic are the choices amongst the whole band? DB: Most of the set picks itself, but it will be hard for the tour in March, there are so many songs that will be massive live, as fans will no doubt discover in February You?ve been on lots of top bills throughout your career which one has been your favourite and why? LM: Donington in 1990 was a big moment, in front of a huge crowd, and we did the business. Bon Jovi in 95 was another for the same reason. There have been many, and they're all amazing for one reason or another. If you could assemble your all time festival line up who would it be? Obviously including Thunder in there somewhere. DB: Jimi Hendrix, Free, Bruce Springsteen, Van Halen (circa 1978), Thunder, and The Beatles, but you'll have to choose the running order. > If Thunder were to be included in a ?rock? time capsule which 3 songs would you choose to include? LM: Low Life In High Places, I Love You More Than Rock'n'Roll, and you can choose the third. (I chose Until My Dying Day or Loser) Your two B&M album have gone down really well with fans do you have plans for further albums? DB: Yes, why not, it's great when we step outside of the Thunder model for a bit and get all souled up. Bowes & Morley will return, but I don't know when right now.. Do you write differently for B&M than you do for Thunder? LM: I have to, the style is broader, and the musicians play differently (apart from Danny and myself). I work the same way, just to a different brief. Danny, You have previously mentioned involvement in a Sensational Alex Harvey Band tribute album. Do you have any more information you can tell us? DB: No idea what happened there. They asked me to do it, I said yes, we even pencilled in some studio time, but it didn't happen and I've heard nothing since. You'll probably find it'll be released next week and I'm not on it. Typical. The new single has been described as classic Thunder, tell us a bit about the new album ?The Magnificent Seventh? LM: It's a lot more instant than we've been in the past, it's 54 minutes long, it was easy to make as usual. We'll be putting up some sound clips on the website at the end of November, so you'll all be able to hear for yourselves. And finally, what?s next..? DB: We're going back to bed, this interview lark is very tiring... Seriously, we're going into catering for some lunch, then we're going back to bed! No really, the Xmas Show is next (December 22nd @ Rock City in Nottingham), then it's full steam ahead for the new LP in Feb. LM: Then there's the UK tour in March, European shows straight after that, festivals in the summer, and some surprising stuff in the autumn, but you'll have to wait and see.
