The Rolling Stones Aftermath - Shadow Sleeve - VG UK vinyl LP album (LP record)

Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
BACKGROUND
Released on the 15th of April 1966, this was the first Rolling Stones album to feature entirely Jagger / Richard compositions, although it is best remembered for the outstanding contributions of Brian Jones. Very unusual for Vinyl at this time, the album included fifty three minutes of music. By comparison, The Beatles' 'Reveolver', released the same year, ran for just under thirty five minutes. The album was originally to be called 'Could YOU Walk On The Water' but Decca insisted that the name be changed, so 'Aftermath' it was. The artwork was later used for 'Big Hits - High Tide And Green Grass'.
The 'shadow' sleeve was only ever on the first mono issues of this recording and no stereo copies are known to exist. Nobody knows for sure just how many of these exist in total, but it is very few indeed.
Condition:
As it's the least important part of this package, let's get it out of the way first. Like the Turqouise lettered Led Zeppelin, the vinyl is standard first issue with deep groove labels, K/T tax code at 3PM & italic composer credits. This is identical with any other first press vinyl although the label configuration does vary a little, even within the first press parameters. As it stands, the vinyl shows a few surface hairlines and several light scuffs but plays through without fault. Being pressed on a substance that would give a diamond a run for its money, these scuffs and hairlines are predominantly cosmetic although the odd click may be heard at times along with minor surface noise possible in quiet passages.
The all important sleeve shows some marked age yellowing on the unlaminated back but that kind of adds to the smoky club atmosphere of gigs at that time. There is a little wear to be seen, mostly again to the unlaminated back, although all text is clear & easily readable. Mercifully, the front is protected by good old 'Clarifoil' laminate, so has been spared most of the shelfwear seen on the back. There is some scuffing to be seen at the edges and corners, but the main image has been protected well and you can still easily read the spine. Being 'Clarifoil', which was prone to shrink over time, thereis a little lifting near the spine and a little cracking and creasing but the laminate remains complete and unsplit.
So there you go. The rarest Stones UK commercial release in very acceptable, but not perfect, condition at a serioously advantageous price.
A certain investment for the future.
