Bob Dylan Bob Dylan - 1st US vinyl LP album (LP record)
|
Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
These original stereo pressings are very rare indeed - stereo was in its infancy and few copies were manufactured; most copies of the first release of Bob Dylan were in mono.
The very first stereo release of this album came with red/black "six eye" CBS "STEREO <-- --> FIDELITY" labels with 'Nonbreakable' text. This particular label version is one of four variants we know of, with the first track on either side listed above the spindle hole. The matrix numbers are machine stamped & read:
Side One - XSM-55621-1D Side Two - XSM-55622-1C
The front sleeve has a red stereo/arrow logo at the top & the picture shows the top of Bob's hat with three tuning pegs on the guitar (the mono edition had a lower crop with only one peg but much more of Bob's hand). You're No Good by Jesse Fuller is correctly titled on both sleeve and record label. The back cover has the 'Produced by John Hammond' print below the artist name & the number '4' is printed bottom right, denoting the printer and/or sleeve fabricator. Columbia's original colour catalogue inner is enclosed.
Condition :-
This really is an extraordinary copy ...
The sleeve is beautiful. There are no deletion cuts & no writing or tears. The spine is clear, readable & unbroken. The edges reveal a little mild paper scuffing & the odd paper chip with no seam splits. The front & back panels are nice & clean with all text legible. This is an Excellent example considering it was never laminated, with a little natural foxing on the back not spoiling the print. A phenomenal condition copy.
The labels bear no writing or tears, & a few minor spindle marks by the centre hole to show play. The heavyweight sixties vinyl has retained its shine, incredible for an album of its age, let alone one as rare as this. The vinyl grades VG with a number of faint hairlines & marks in places but no feelable scratches, albeit with some light background surface in the quieter sections upon playback, as to be expected & superb sound. This is only our second copy we have been able to offer. They do not come along every day & this is a very acceptable, by no means mint, example of a vital & historic sixties classic, not least the earliest US stereo pressing we know of!
Recommended.
