 Rockabilly
Rockabilly was one of the very first forms of rock & roll, a mix of country & western with early rhythm & blues. It's driving rhythms and thumping beat - twangy guitar and acoustic stand-up bass - created a sound which made rock & roll accessible to white audiences. In a sense it's rockabilly that truly began the Rock'N'Roll revival, and so changed the world! The earliest Rockabilly artists to achieve success were Bill Haley, Elvis Presley or Gene Vincent, all of whom who crossed over to mainstream charts with a more easy sound based on rockabilly style.

While Rockabilly moulded into Rock'N'Roll, and that in turn into many watered down forms, artists still to this day return to the drive and power of Rockabilly simplicity. In the early '80s for example, there was a rockabilly revival and groups, like the Stray Cats, The Meteors or The Cramps, played up the retro-'50s style to a whole new audience.
