The Cover Version. Almost every artist ever has recorded one. In fact some have built careers based on nothing else! Some cover versions have surpassed the originals. While many are best forgotten.
It is a phenomenon which from the earliest rock'n'rollers to the current chart toppers drives the music industry. The often levelled accusation is that cover versions are simple or sterile interpretations recorded by lazy artists.
Some however are radical, wonderful, honest and special versions that can even better an original.

This is our tribute to some of the best and worst cover versions of all time. Below are EIL.COM charts with rare and collectable singles and albums plus the chance to vote and chat about your choices.
Because of the peculiarity of a cover version they are often amongst the most sought after items by any artist so check our charts to see what you should include in your collections.
