Mick Jagger Ned Kelly New Zealand vinyl LP album (LP record)

Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
This is a tough album to find generally, but a New Zealand LP is always a special find. Around this time, the population of the entire of New Zealand was approximately 2.81 Million. That is the same as the City of Los Angeles in 1970 and far less than the 7.4 Million of London or 7.9 Million of New York. This led to far fewer numbers of albums being pressed. There just were not enough people in the population to buy them in the sort of quantities that would be economical to press. If your market was 7.9 Million in New York alone, then you might be happy to press a few thousand copies of a soundtrack album & hope to sell them. If your total market was just 2.81 Million then you'd probably be far happier importing than setting up your own pressing run. The fact that this was 'Ned Kelly', an Australian anti-hero and also that the lead role was played by Mick Jagger almost certainly were the facts that decided to get the Kiwi plates rolling.
Needless to say, the run would not have been big.
Condition:
The flimsy sleeve shows some mild discolouration to the bottom left corner, but otherwise is doing remarkably well. There is some obvious light shelfwear but again nothing outrageous and the spine remains legible.
The labels are the black 'deep groove' UA labels of the period and remain unfaded and unworn. The previous owner either had a shaky hand or poor aim as there are quite a number of spindlemarks around the centre hole although the vinyl itself would not suggest this level of play. This is a good solid pressing & the vinyl itself shows just a couple of scuffs and a few light surface hairlines. Again, little to write home about. The vinyl retains its sheen with little evidence of groove wear or heavy stylus play.
So, not a mint copy, but a very acceptable one nonetheless. True New Zealand pressings from this period are extremely difficult to find anyway, but this holds serious appeal for both Rolling Stones and Soundtrack collectors alike.
We've not had an original Ned Kelly soundtrack LP from ANYWHERE since 1997, so to find this is nice for us too !
