GILBERTO GIL Louvação (2026 UK/EU limited edition 12-track LP pressed on Red Vinyl. Originally released in 1967 on Philips, Louvação stands as Gilberto Gil's debut album, arriving on the cusp of the Tropicá lia movement. Gil's guitar sits at the centre of richly textured arrangements by Carlos Monteiro de Souza, Dori Caymmi and Leonardo Bruno, weaving together samba, bossa nova, carnival tradition and Northeastern Brazilian rhythms into a recordunafraid to engage directly with social, political and religious themes. The title track, co-written with Torquato Neto, calls for collective awareness, while "A Rua" carries a bittersweet, nostalgic weight. Gil's ties to Bahia surface on "Beira-Mar," a collaboration with Caetano Veloso, and his imaginative reach extends to the space race on "Lunik 9." "Ensaio Geral" channels the political charge of carnival, and "Rancho da Rosa Encarnada," written with Torquato Neto and Geraldo Vandré, evokes traditional festivity. Elsewhere, the rhythmic invention of "Roda" and the celebratory "Viramundo," featuring Capinan, sit alongside the intimacy of "Maria (Me Perdoe, Maria)" and the closing reflection on faith and society in "Procissão." Picture sleeve, factory sealed. Recommended)
