	Palladium Jazz Date Rare 1961 UK original Mono Fontana LP. Side 1 is dedicated to Cleo Laine with Orchestra directed by Dave Lindup, and side 2 to the Tubby Hayes Quartet, both recorded at the London Palladium. Usually found in very poor shape, the heavyweight vinyl on this copy is in Excellent condition, with minimal surface noise from the 40+ year old deep grooved vinyl. The glorious picture sleeve is near Mint, with informative Benny Green sleeve notesprinted on the back cover. Ł 125.00

Dick Swings...

Hi all,
A small break from the Miles Davis story this week, just to keep you all in suspense.
I thought I'd give you a quick summary of my personal playlist this week ...

I'm still working through one of my mammoth box sets of Art Pepper. I finished the Complete Village Vanguard a while ago which saw Art begin his miracle late 70s comeback and began to establish him as one of the, if not THE, greatest Alto Sax players of all time. Extraordinary stuff. A goodly portion of the rest is on my other box set, The Complete Galaxy Recordings, which features many of his classic recordings made between 1978 & 1982. This is the one I am currently about 75% through. Absolutely essential stuff for those who, like me, are happiest with a drums/bass/piano/sax combo.

Art was once asked why he played every solo with such intensity, as if it might be his last. His reply was that one day it would be! If you get the chance check out Straight Life, his autobiography, which was compiled & edited by his wife Laurie. Other stuff falling through my ears at the moment include The Complete Columbia Recordings of the 1965-68 Quintet & a bit more Art Pepper with Micho Leviev recorded live at their residency at Ronnie Scotts in 1981 - 'Blues For The Fisherman' - well worth tracking down if you can find a copy. It's on the Mole Jazz label, MOLE1.

I'm also very much looking forward to the new CBS/Columbia Original Album Classics boxed sets - look to be some nice stuff in there. Titles include releases from Stanley Clarke, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Duke, Miles, George Benson, John McLaughlin, Monk, Sonny Rollins & Weather Report - Each with Five classic CDs & all for under Ł20 each - Bargain! That's my Christmas list sorted ... L8r peeps.

Herbie Hancock


	Takin' Off 2006 US limited edition 6-track LP pressed on 180gram VIRGIN VINYL - originally released in 1962, this was Hancock's Blue Note debut, and is a sophisticated showcase for Hancock's ability as a group leader. Not as intellectually challenging or technically complex as his later recordings, the pianist nevertheless displays a restless imagination and technical verve. When he's not striking off on funky, swinging solos, the backing chords arerestrained & unassuming, presented in individually numbered high quality sleeve, housed in self-seal PVC bag. Ł 39.99

Mixing classic and rarely seen archive footage alongside interviews with Cleo Laine and David McAlmont and her closest friends and collaborators.

London Jazz Festival Live Show Friday 16 Nov, 22:30-1:00: Jez Nelson hosts a special edition live from London's Pizza Express jazz club on the first night of the 2007 London Jazz Festival, featuring exclusive performances from some of the top acts on this year's programme.
