jules south charleston, wv USA Created Sun 26th Feb '12 02:14 (GMT)Autographed Iron Maiden Eddie as Santa and Mechanical Reinde I have one of these Christmas cards autographed by the band and their producer. Mine is slightly different on the inside then the one posted on this sight, but same on the front. The inside of mine has black Merry Christmas with yellow Iron Maiden underneath & of course individual autographs and notations. In the 1980's, my grandmother happened to be flying on the same plane as the band. What are the odds. Lol. She referenced the flight as being quite eventful due to the band. When she finally asked, "Who are you?, they told her & asked if she had any grandchildren and they proceded to autograph a Christmas card made out to me personally. Pretty awesome. Signatures include: Producer, Rod Smallwood, band members: Dave Murray, Bruce Dickinson, Adrian Smith, Nicko (individual), Rebecca & Nicko (by Rebecca), Andy Lyon and another undetermined signature. Would consider selling said item to the right enthusiast.[reply to this topic ]

tottrhys UNITED KINGDOM Created Thu 16th Feb '12 09:18 (GMT)Elton John - Rock of the Westies Coming hard on the heels of the Captain Fantastic album this album proved to be quite a change of sound at the time. Elton expanded his band changing his drummer and bassist and adding Ray Cooper on percussion and, most significantly, James Newton Howard on keyboards. Newton Howard proved to be a musical wizard who formed a long partnership with Elton and defined his new sound. This new musical alchemy proved to inspire Elton and Westies proved to be a platform for his musically sublime Blue Moves the following year. The album is a bit rough and ready in places but is full of excitement. The hits from it pretty much define the style so if you like Grow some funk and Island Girl you've pretty much got the taste and it remains pretty upbeat throughout. The irony is that one of Elton's best ever ballads is on this album - Feel like Bullet (in the gun of Robert Ford) - and it has been sadly overlooked through the years because it is on such an uptempo album. Westies is a must for Elton fans as it demonstrates his musical growth and progression and starts to distance him from the Crocodile Rock years. I have the Japanese CD edition with replica sleeve - basically the 2005 remaster but well worth the money.[reply to this topic ]

tottrhys UNITED KINGDOM Created Mon 6th Feb '12 18:11 (GMT)Review: Most progressive music of the 1970's hasn't aged brilliantly but no collection from the era wouldn't be complete without this album. Giltrap's signature tune 'Heartsong' is so ingrained into my generation that I can't imagine not owning it but to say that is the only worthy piece on the album would do Perilious Journey no justice at all. It is a genuinely good album and if you like your acoustic instrumental rock albums then you can do little better than this. It's a cross between John Renbourn and Rick Wakeman but I feel that Gordon himself would probably approve of that comparison. Sure it's a bit twee in places but it is superbly played and a must for a guitarists and guitar lovers. Don't understand why you haven't got it already really.....[reply to this topic ]
