tottrhys UNITED KINGDOM Created Wed 6th Nov '13 15:01 (GMT)Glen Campbell Greatest Hits 1971 This is music of a bygone age in Country pop but is a classic because of it and the remarkable talents of Glen Campbell himself. Five Jimmy Webb (4 Classics!) can't be bad and it is worth buying if only because the sound and style of the late sixties make this stand up as a stand alone album. Later collections mixed together later hits that don't fit this era so well. In spite of the lyrics echoing a surprising amount of sexist outlooks (an era when men were men and women were grateful) the songs remain fabulously singable and a must for all. What a period piece!! Probably a marmite album but I simply couldn't resist this slice of late sixties Americana...[reply to this topic ]
Hair Virginia Beach, VA USA Created Thu 16th Oct '08 04:02 (GMT)Glen Campbell - Platinum CD - EU/German pressing This EU version (I can't find Germany listed on it) of "Platinum" on the EMI label is interesting to have because it comes in a jewel box, unlike its American counterpart, which comes in a cardboard gatefold picture cover.[reply to this topic ]

Hair Virginia Beach, VA USA Created Sat 13th Sep '08 04:41 (GMT)Review: Meet Glen Campbell UK CD I already owned the U.S. versions of this new Glen Campbell album but wanted to have the UK version as well. As usual, eil.com provided excellent service and excellent product. Regarding the music on the album itself, this is the best album Glen has done in several years, mainly because he was free to do his style of music. His final three albums for Capitol which were done from 1990 through 1993, did not allow him the artistic freedom he enjoyed for so much of his career. The final album of the three, "Somebody Like That", was the worst of the bunch song-wise, and those bad songs also had the dreaded Nashville formula arrangements & production style. Only half of the album sounded like a Glen Campbell album. Glen sounded great singing them, but half of the songs were just awful, and he was obviously forced to record them to fulfill his contract. He did some great Contemporary Christian albums afterward for another label, where he had much more artistic freedom. Nevertheless, this brand new album returns him to his classic late 1960s sound that has been refreshingly updated. If you didn't know the background of the songs, you'd swear they were custom made for Glen. I can't recommend it highly enough![reply to this topic ]
Re: GLEN CAMPBELL Meet Glen Campbell (2008 UK 10-track CD album -
For 'Meet Glen Campbell', the influential singer & guitarist is once
again making others' songs his own, recording high-spirited,
emotionally charged versions of tracks that have personally moved &
inspired him. Campbell's intimate performances convey an
autobiographical & deeply personal connection to the album's songs,
including Travis ['Sing'], Tom Petty ['Angel Dream' & 'Walls'], The
Replacements ['Sadly Beautiful'], U2 ['All I Want Is You'], The Velvet Underground ['Jesus'] and Jackson Browne [These Days'], among others.)View this product
Hair Virginia Beach, VA USA Created Tue 3rd Oct '06 13:19 (GMT)Glen Campbell - Houston (I'm Comin' to See You) - Test Press This item was shipped quickly, is in great condition, but there were a few surprises, not unpleasant. It was advertised as a 9-song test pressing but it has 10 songs, and the 10th song is at the start of the LP, a song called "London (I'm Comin' to See You)", which means that this is a test pressing of the UK version of this album, which was called simply "Glen". I am still very pleased to have this LP, thank you very much.[reply to this topic ]
