horizon Clayton, VIC AUSTRALIA Created Sat 15th Jun '13 08:01 (GMT)Connoisseur's Sinatra - Australian version The Australian World Record Club release of “The Connoisseur's Sinatra” is the release of a of a somewhat scarce item turning out to be a much rarer item. The manager of the WRC asked the Sinatra Society of Australia to suggest some releases that might be of interest to Sinatra collectors. Among the suggestions given was the release of the aforementioned album. Apparently WRC submitted its request for the songs on the original release to EMI and these were duly supplied. However one song “Day In, Day Out” was not the version on the original album, but was in fact an uptempo version recorded on December 22, 1958. The slower version was recorded on January 3, 1954 and prior to this date had never appeared in LP format. As mentioned in the SSA’s newsletter of March/April 1978, “Most Sinatra collectors have a weakness for the oddity – which this album is. Hence we could have the paradoxical situation of a record that should not have seen the light of day, enjoying enhanced sales.”[reply to this topic ]
horizon Clayton, VIC AUSTRALIA Created Fri 26th Apr '13 04:36 (GMT)Vintage Sinatra (Australian Releases) I see the 5 lps issued by the Sinatra Society of Australia have found their way to eil. Volume 1 of the series is the rarest of the issues with only 200 being pressed. Volume 2 (the 1959 Melbourne concert) had 600 issued. Incidentaly, the record labels on this release were incorrectly applied and on every copy side 1 is actually side 2 and the side 2 label is actually side 1. Volumes 3 and 4 were of 400 issues each and the fifth release (the two Bing Crosby shows with Sinatra as a guest) had 600 copies pressed. Incidentally, the Jicko label "re-issued" volumes 1, 3 and 4 but their numbering carried no similarity to the original Society issues.[reply to this topic ]
horizon Clayton, VIC AUSTRALIA Created Sat 2nd Mar '13 07:47 (GMT)Nice Record - Wrong Country The LP is listed as a UK - LP RECORD but is of course an Australian issue (along with The Rarities Volume One), both of which have been listed for the first time. Also the liner notes seem vaguely familiar. Bill Weeden[reply to this topic ]
Re: FRANK SINATRA The Rarities - Volume Two (1983 Australian
only 20-track compilation LP featuring rare tracks recorded
between 1953 & 1960, picture sleeve with extensive sleeve
notes by Bill Weeden on the reverse. The sleeve shows
minimal wear and despite looking 'cloudy' due to contact with
the poly-lined inner, the vinyl appears barely played
