Prince Buster I Feel The Spirit - 1st UK vinyl LP album (LP record)
|
Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
When Prince Buster signed to Blue Beat, it marked the first exclusive licensing arrangement ever launched between a Jamaican artist & a British label. Historically, this is the first ska longplayer to be released outside of Jamaica.
Starring the Drumbago All Stars (Arkland Parks), Rico Rodriguez's Blues Band & the 'Les Dawson Blues Unit' (a pseudonym for Laurel Aitken's group!), this debut longplayer by Prince Buster includes the tune, Soul Of Africa, one of the music's earliest declarations of cultural unity, Madness [where a certain British group lifted their name] & Shaking Up Orange Street, both big tunes in
the early-'80s Two Tone movement. Simply put, this is a must own for anyone remotely interested in Jamaican music.

Condition :-
Sleeve :-
The cover is a thing of beauty. It actually appears more like an African record at first glance. The colours remain rich & vivid & the main bulk is still a glorious off white. There is a little creasing around the edges & a few small paper tears along the top edge but nothing upsetting. The flipbacks are secure & all text legible.
Labels:
The labels are the iconic dark blue & silver Blue Beat design. Owning any Blue Beat record really sorts the men from the boys! There is some spindle wear around the centre hole [who didn't play this?] but nothing too excessive.
Vinyl :-
The vinyl has been professionally cleaned & has come up looking sparkling. Obviously we had to play test this beauty. Upon visual inspection, there are a handful of paper scuffs & light scratches [nothing that can be felt], but playback remains exceptional, with only light surface & the odd faint click. What's great about flicking to a mono setting for a non-stereo record is that any surface noise is suddenly pushed to the back & the music to the fore. We would grade this elusive example, the first we've ever seen, an honest VG- but it means so much more to a collector & true Jamaican music lover.
Not to be missed.
