|This item comes direct from the personal archive of former tour manager, John
Courage. Despite having connections with a UK national brewery of note, John decided that the Rock 'n' Roll lifestyle was more to his taste.
In September 1972, he was poached from being the road manager of Savoy Brown to become the tour manager of Fleetwood Mac, just before the release of the 'Penguin' album & subsequent tour.
Since that date until his retirement, he stuck with the Mac through thick & thin,
seeing in the arrival of Lindsey Buckingham & Stevie Nicks to the band, creating a very new sound for the former Blues band.
We are all aware of the effect that the 'Fleetwood Mac', then the mega-hit
multi-platinum release 'Rumours' had on the band. The tours went from halls to
stadiums in a couple of short jet propelled years.
As the internal madness began to compete with the fan frenzy, John remained with the band through this incredible period, even though for one of his birthdays the band decorated his Hotel room with fifty chickens & bales of straw!
Throughout these visions of excess, the music continued to flow as freely as the
parties, resulting in sellout tours the world over.
John found himself slowly acquiring a selection of items that were given to him by members of the band at various points over a distinguished career that lasted in excess of twenty five years.
These gradually took up more & more space until, finally, John decided that some of them must go. What you are looking at here is one of those items.
Its history is impeccable. Its provenance guaranteed.
From the personal collection of John Courage, a one-off collectable from the tour manager of one of the biggest groups of all time.

|Record company award discs started their life as 'Gold Discs' with the first of
these awarded by RCA to Glenn Miller in February 1942, celebrating 1,200,000
sales of Chattanooga Choo Choo. Most countries have followed the original RIAA
'Gold Disc' certification which was pioneered and trademarked in the USA.
Typically presented to a number of recipients starting with band members & family,
management and then to key record company staff who it was felt contributed to
the success of the release or the band. They are also given to a small number of
high profile radio stations, DJ's and shops whose efforts increased the profile
of the band. There are a number of different types of award discs with the most
hard to find being those certified by the Record Companies official body in each
country, for example in the UK it is the BPI, USA have the RIAA , Canada CRIA,
France SNEP these being just a few of those we have come across. These most
typically, are presented to band members, management and national radio stations.
The second type of award are 'In House' awards which are produced by the record
company in slighly larger numbers to thank industry 'workers' and general media.
All presented in very small quantities to commemorate the number of records sold,
with UK BPI as an example classifying Gold as 200,000 copies, Platinium as
300,000 and silver as 200,000 with differing levels for singles sold, which again
differs from country to country.
The actual awards themselves are constructed from a variety of materials which
historically was for LP sales but has increasingly been replaced by CD awards.
All tend to feature sleeve artwork reproductions with the disc mounted on a
coloured felt background above a dedication plaque , with layout varying in
the case of landmark sales such as 4xPlatinum for 1.2 million copie sold.
There is no set rule of thumb though as far as design goes, and some labels
in far flung countries are inclined to be rather creative.
The most important consideration when purchasing these items is to ensure you
buy authentic industry awards and not those sold on auction sites and market
stalls which are described as reproduction presentation discs. This in reality
translates as shoddy unofficial and poorly constructed items made in someones
tool shed. As with all purchases from EIL.COM you are 100% guaranteed to receive
authentic and genuine items.
