End of the Reel for Cassettes
or the Start of a New Collectable Era?

Eil.com the world's leading provider of rare music & music memorabilia was more than an interested listener when Curry's announced they will no longer be selling cassette tapes from the end of this year.

Robert Croydon co-founder of eil.com smiled when saying: "For anyone over the age of 35 the cassette tape was an integral part of growing up. Not simply as a way of listening to listen to music but also for the freedom it allowed you in making your own compilation tapes. Most often the hours they took to compile were a labour of love as the tapes destination was someone you admired. If you were tongue-tied then you let your tape do the talking for you".

In terms of the humble cassette sold on the high street these are still avidly hunted down by the collecting fraternity. Julian Thomas, Director of eil.com's acquistion department, added " our worldwide team of buyers are constantly searching for rare and hard to source cassettes for our collectors. As part of our commitment to being the largest single source of rare music collectables we currently have over 1000 rare & out of print cassettes on offer. All serious collectors will have cassettes in their collections and we are happy to try and help them track down these missing pieces for them".

In terms of the music collectables the tape has long held a place in the marketplace. Early reel-to-reel tapes have long held allure for the completist. Steve Borkowski senior buyer for eil.com "the early examples of studio recordings as opposed are extremely rare in that they were so few survived and are quite often unique recordings. He added eil.com have recently sourced some John Lennon interview reel-to-reel tapes that they believe to be one off recordings. We are researching their background currently but Lennon and Beatles collectors are hopefully going to be amazed. Watch this space!"
