Cast your minds back to the oh-so hopeful one hit wonders and long-gone pop stars...
..why did they disappear..who would you resurrect..would they survive today?

Reborn In The USA, a UK TV show, has dug up ten pop stars from yesteryear (from the 60s to the 90s) and give them the chance of re-discovery and the chance of a second chance at fickle fame.

The ten are travelling around famously musical cities in the USA plying their wares to unsuspecting local audiences, to whom they will be unknowns. Each week they visit a different city and perform versions of songs connected to the city they are in. Week by week they are nominated by the local US audience and a phone vote by TV viewers decides the evictee.

The eventual winner is to be rewarded with a new recording contract plus another shot at the charts. Plans have been mentioned for a UK tour and also an album featuring the best turns of the tour.

All the weeks news and rumours are here, as well as great EIL.COM catalogues and charts to remind of these long-forgotten stars. You can vote on who you think should win, choose the next series victims and chat about the show too.

...THE 'Reborn In The USA' STORY SO FAR...

Week One ...the fortunate few chosen for the show climbed aboard their bus and headed off...

First stop was New Orleans and a touch of deep-south style performing. One rock star tantrum (or moment of clarity?) later and Mark Shaw from Then Jerico leaves to be replaced by Go West's Peter Cox. The first two up for eviction are Dollar and Sonia; Theresa from Dollar doesn't appreciate Gina G flashes her legs to gain votes and realising some people don't like her sends Sonia towards home...

Week Two ...back to the burgers and Bucks Fizz for Dave and Theresa as Dollar lose the vote.

Next up was Philadelphia for smooth soul classics. Sonia reveals she has had death threats (or was she told to stop killing the songs?) but decides she sticks with it, turns in a good performance leaving Elkie and Gina to be the next off home...

Week Three ...Ooh Aah Not quite enough for Gina, she is off home.

Surprisingly no-one went for White Stripes or techno covers in Detroit. Elkie Brooks and Tony Hadley face the voting public but Elkie thinks the sex symbol status of pushing 50 Tony will sway the voters!!

Week Four ...Elkie was right and the sex god that is Tony Hadley wins the vote.

The bus trundles on to the land of Rock & Roll, Memphis, Tennessee. Bizarrely the only person not to sing an Elvis song is the weeks winner! Tony Hadley wowed the locals with a version of Marc Cohn's 'Walking In Memphis', perhaps the producers couldn't think of enough Elvis songs!

Week Five ...Sonia fails to recall the country spirit is heading home.

It was Peter's rousing version of Shania Twain's song 'You're Still The One' and maybe his rhinestone outfit that swung the vote his way again. Sonia won't worry because it's been rumoured she'll be flogging turkey chops back in the UK...

Week Six ...Leee loses out to Michelle in the closest ever vote.

The gang headed for Cleveland, the home of the 'Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame' museum. Each of the remaining contestants (Peter, Tony, Leee, Michelle and Haydun) sang two songs from entrants in the Hall Of Fame. It was Peter's performance of The Police's 'Every Breath You Take' that swung the vote his way. The eviction votes are getting closer and closer with very little between Leee and Michelle.

Week Seven ...Haydun was voted off by the UK phone-in leaving Michelle, Peter and Tony.

With three contestants left the shows rules were changed slightly. The show in New York was the penultimate and it was decided to cancel the planned UK weekly phone vote to choose the second finalist, going to a straight knock out, using the local audience vote to eliminate their least popular. This meant that at the end of the show only two finalists remained, they will battle it out in a live TV special next week.

...so after a storming performance by each contestant it was Peter Cox who lost out.

Michelle, Peter and Tony Hadley performed for the local New York crowd. Surprisingly, it was Peter who gained the fewest votes. He had been a consistent favourite throughout the course of the show, winning the local US vote a total of three times. Bookmakers had given him impressive odds on winning before the outcome of the New York show. However it was nerves on the night that meant he forgot several lines whilst performing Norah Jones' 'Don't Know Why', this was his downfall.

Week Eight The final two, Michelle and Tony do battle for the comeback crown...

After wowing the crowds with three performances each - one from their own personal hit collection and two from the best of their US turns - the audience and viewers voted.

It was the former Spandau Ballet frontman who won over the public. Tony turned out awesome versions of 'Through the Barricades' and followed it up with Marc Cohn's Walking in Memphis and Frank Sinatra's That's Life.

Runner-up Michelle sang 'Sweetness', followed by Elvis Presley's Love Me Tender, and Dionne Warwick's I Say a Little Prayer.

Tony had been the bookies favourite since the 'stars' were announced for the show. But he had come up against competition from fellow 80s pop star Peter Cox of Go West in the later weeks of the tour. He rather confidently stated on Saturday that he would win if the contest was "down to pure talent". But he was true to his word walking away with the majority of the vote.

All the stars are featured on the new 'Reborn In The USA' album which is due to be out soon!
