The party dust has settled and the recollections are returning. The 2002 Panasonic Mercury Music prize celebrations are over for another year and again the winner was a surprise to most. The challenges of The Doves, The Coral and The Streets came to nothing. The £20,000 prize cheque was awarded to 21-year-old Ms Dynamite. She was amongst the live performers on the night, other acts included The Doves and Roots Manuva. It has been a heady rise for the prodigious youth. Just over a year ago she was guesting on other's tracks, such as the smash 'Boo!' with Sticky. Now with sales of her debut album guaranteed to soar plus six nominations for the upcoming MOBO Awards, it looks like Ms Dynamite really has blown up !! The awards, who are sponsored by Panasonic, are a salute to the originality and breadth of British musical talent. EIL.COMs Mercury 2002 page has information on all of the nominees, plus some fantastic collectables. |

The Last Broadcast is all at once epic, melancholic, melodious, sweeping orchestral beauty that whether it recieves the Mercury plaudits will be in every Top 10 of the year.

The elderstatesman amongst the nominees. 'Heathen' is a fantastic album that harks back to so many eras in Bowies career. It is the first album in nearly a decade that has been produced by old co-hort Tony Visconti, the man who produced some of David's biggest hits to date.

This pair of laid back individuals hail from Isle Of Wight, and perhaps were conceived at the time of the infamous festival because you can hear a definite 60s vibe through this album. Reggae tinged, harmoniously sung, funk filled big slab of sunny day goodness.
