| | Review: This album is interesting and worth a listen simply because of the track titled "Gingerbread Man." It is a track influenced by the psychedelic music of the late 1960s. When Disney meets psychedelia, it is bound to have an interesting result. The track includes a dissonant organ, sped-up vocals and electric guitar, and strange sound effects created by musical instruments. The tempo of the song changes at several points as well. The track had a major influence on my later musical tastes. "Tuti" Camarata, the writer and arranger of the track, really outdid himself on this one.
I should also make a comment about the track "Boogie Woogie Bakery Man." Be prepared to here the now outdated and inaccurate term "oriental" used repeatedly to describe the Chinese baker who is the topic of this song (e.g., "He's the sentimental, oriental, fortune cookie bakery man."). In fact, the song also includes lyrics quoting the baker as he draws attention to his baked goods using a stereotyped Chinese dialect (e.g., "Looky, looky, looky!). | [reply to this topic] |
