Saul Watson - Product Promotion Friday 16 January 2009 Planet Rock News: U2 Reveal New Album Artwork/Tracklist: : U2 have revealed the artwork and tracklist for their imminent new album, No Line On The Horizon. The record is released on 2 March and will be preceded on 15 February by first single ‘Get On Yer Boots.’ As previously announced the band will perform the single live for the first time at the Brit Awards on 18th February. The album features eleven new songs and is produced by long-term collaborators Brian Eno, Danny Lanois and Steve Lillywhite. As with most physical album releases these days, No Line will be available in a range of standard, deluxe, super-deluxe and vinyl packages including CD, CD/DVD, Magazine, Digipak, Box and Vinyls. Mott The Hoople Reunite: The original line-up of hugely influential rockers Mott The Hoople are to reunite for a pair of dates in October. Ian Hunter, Verden Allen, Dale Griffin, Overend Watts and Mick Ralphs will reunite for the first time in 35 years for two dates at Hammersmith Apollo on 2-3 October. The 40th Anniversary shows take place at the venue where part of Hoople’s classic Mott The Hoople Live album was recorded in 1973.
Saul Watson - Product Promotion Thursday 15 January 2009 Government Plans Live Noise Restriction: Live music in the UK is apparently under threat as the government is reportedly planning to introduce new laws that will force all live music venues to fit noise limiting devices.  :
According to a new online petition all venues that are applying or re-applying for their entertainment license will need to pay for and fit a noise limiting device. The worry is that either venues will not be able to afford the limiting device, and that the ones that do will see the sound quality/atmosphere/fun taken out of live shows.
 :
In 2008 Bruce Springsteen was forced to put in place a noise cancelling curtain at his Emirates Stadium shows, and for many the effect was that the gig was simply too quiet and it ruined what was a great performance from the band.
 :
According to the new petition, which has just over 20,000 votes, “the government wish to consider it a legal requirement in the new tax year to introduce laws insisting anyone applying or re-applying for an entertainment license must have a noise control device fitted to the venue. ::
 :
This will be the final NAIL for ALL entertainment in the UK as the level at which these devices CUT you off is dreadfully low and damaging.”

Saul Watson - Product Promotion Thursday 08 January 2009 Revived 45 heads for 60th birthday: As the production line grinds to its own industrial beat, it's clear that music formats don't get any more physical than this. Downloads and iPods are all very well, but for many musicians, your latest song just hasn't been released until it's been forced on to a small, grooved plastic disc at a pressure of more than 2,000 lb per square inch. The Wombats and Franz Ferdinand are among the artists whose seven-inch vinyl records are being sleeved and boxed at the Portalspace factory in Hayes, on the edge of west London. As it happens, they are the latest in a venerable tradition. The 45 rpm single is about to reach its 60th anniversary and despite repeated predictions of its demise, sales are rising once again.

Saul Watson - Product Promotion Thursday 08 January 2009 Planet Rock News: Jon Lord On “Hot Air &::: Wild Speculation”: Jon Lord has seemingly poured cold water on the rumours about a Mk.III Deep Purple reunion, calling it “hot air and wild speculations.”
After Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich half-jokingly offered to fill in for Ian Paice on any reunion, should Paice be unavailable due to commitments with the current Deep Purple, rumours began to circulate that the Mk.III line-up may play some dates this year. However, Jon Lord has moved to quell the growing enthusiasm. In a post on his website he says: “It all seems like a lot of hot air and wild speculation to me. “I like Lars and what he has achieved with Metallica. He’s obviously always been very complementary in his comments about DP, and I love the story of his famous nine-years-old “baptism of fire” at our ‘73 concert in The KB Halle in Copenhagen, but if I was asked to be involved in a “Mark III” reunion - (which, by the way, I haven’t. All I ever said was that the idea had a few good points and a few not-so-good points.) - and I indeed considered that offer, I would not be able to even imagine it without the presence of Ian Paice.”
Stooges Guitarist Found Dead: Ron Asheton, guitarist with influential rockers The Stooges, has been found dead at the age of 60. Asheton formed The Stooges along with his brother Scott, school friend Dave Alexander and singer Iggy Pop. Their heavy-duty garage rock was an early prototype for punk rock while they have also been named as influences by a number of hard rock bands over the years. Guns n Roses, The Sex Pistols, Nirvana and The White Stripes have all named The Stooges as great influences. Asheton appeared on all four Stooges albums, including 2007’s comeback album The Weirdness and was ranked at number 29 in Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time. The Stooges paid tribute to Asheton in a joint statement that said "We are shocked and shaken by the news of Ron's death. He was a great friend, brother, musician, trooper. Irreplaceable. He will be missed. "For all that knew him behind the facade of Mr Cool &::: Quirky, he was a kind-hearted, genuine, warm person who always believed that people meant well even if they did not.” Cause of death has not yet been established, but early reports suggest that a heart attack may be responsible. Zombies’ Misspelled Classic: The Zombies’ 1968 classic, Odessey And Oracle has been named in the Top Ten Misspelled Albums Of All Time. The list, compiled by the Mental Floss website, features a host of different albums featuring titles that the artists decided (largely on purpose) to spell incorrectly. The Zombies’ album, however, is the only album on the list whose title was spelled incorrectly by accident. According to Mental Floss, "The band wanted to call the album ‘Odyssey and Oracle’ but cover artist Terry Quirk thwarted that. Quirk accidentally spelled the title wrong and the band, too nice to tell him about his mistake, decided to run with the misspelling. Here’s the full top ten: 1.
