We are here...: I used the marvellous Eurostar service this week when travelling to Paris for the England friendlyzzzzzzzz there and started my journey from the recently opened (and very convenient) Ebbsfleet International station.

What with that and the recently renamed Ebbsfleet United reaching the final of the FA Trophy, to be played at Wembley in May, and the local area is certainly 'on the map'!

Spring Has Sprung:

THE ULTIMATE BEATLES VINYL COLLECTION -- click HERE!!    BEATLES COMPLETE MoFi LP SET -- click HERE!!BEALTES COMPLETE MoFi LP SET -- click HERE!!

Hi Everyone.  I don't know about the rest of you, but winter seemed longer, colder, windier and wetter for most of us in the USA this year.  Not that I'm looking forward to another sizzling summer, but I am glad to see winter gone.  So please allow me to "spring" upon you two of the most coveted audiophile releases from THE BEATLES that have newly graced our stockroom this week.  First, check out THE BEATLES COLLECTION BOX, an amazing, complete assortment of THIRTEEN Mobile Fidelity vinyl album releases, pressed on HIGH DEFINITION SUPER VINYL in a handsome, custom library case. The whole collection is still contained within its outer mailing box, just as it was originally mailed out upon release direct from the manufacturer!  Also available for ONE lucky Fab Four vinyl enthusiast this week is THE BEATLES THIRTEEN MOBILE FIDELITY 1978-1987 ALBUM RELEASE SET, similar to the Collection Box, but individually packaged and presented with custom replica sleeves, and brought together here as the complete series, even including the rarely seen WITH THE BEATLES Mobile Fidelity issue.  Believe me, you'll be FAR better off listening to these spectacular Beatles Audiophile LPs than having to spend another week watching scary and ill-conceived Beatles cover versions on American Idol!  As for me, I'd far prefer spending my time watching BULGARIAN IDOL -- it may lack some of the Beatles' timeless artistry, but it far makes up for it in brazen showmanship!  Have a fantastic spring to our friends on top, and happy autumn to those down below -- TAKE CARE, EVERYONE!

Sad Cafe:

CD singles have been removed from the typical basket of UK goods used to measure inflation.

CD singles, along with frozen vegetarian ready meals, small beer bottles and 35mm camera film have all been removed from the basket to make way for USB sticks, fruit smoothies and muffins.

However CD classic albums have been added to the basket, which continues to include CD chart albums among the 650 goods and services the Office for National Statistics updates annually to reflect public spending habits and to calculate the Retail Price Index.

The ONS says the removal Top 40 singles from the basket reflects the fact consumers are downloading music more. However spending on portable digital storage devices, including memory cards and storage sticks, mp3 players, mobile phones and computers has grown.

The ONS says the inclusion of fruit smoothies and muffins was reflective of a growing "cafe culture".

Past, Present, and Future:
Hello Everyone.  I’m pretty amazed that just 3 weeks ago, I blogged about two of my favorite artists who sadly died way before their time, only to find out just this week that both have new 2008 album releases!  Check out FALCO SYMPHONIC -- recorded live in 1994 and only now released -- and also FOREVER OFRA HAZA, a new collection of contemporary remixes of many of her best-loved hits.  I'd hit the personal tri-fecta if only the new solo album by MORTEN HARKET would finally be released, but until it is, at least there's the lead CD single, MOVIES, to enjoy.  Have a great week, from me in Las Vegas to you, wherever you may be!

Rubbish Budget!!: As we all still recover from the rubbish Budget yesterday where the government continues to attack drivers, they are not just content with allowing GB to be one of the most expensive countries to buy a new car from. They continue to attack us with obscene taxes against perceived guzzlers.  What next the whole nation driving Hybrid or nasty nasty little cheap Focus and Micra's. When will they realise they are elected to represent the country not hike up taxes to make up for the mismanagement of the economy. Why is when they things go well we are 'leading the world' but when things go bad 'it's the rest of the worlds fault'

Hi Everyone.  We all make mistakes from time to time, it's true.  Even here at eil.com, sometimes we'll advertise an item with a wrong scan or a misspelled title, or perhaps we don't get the price exactly right.  We are frequently so busy buying new items, that we don't always take the time to review our existing stock... but we try to revisit our inventory with a new perspective as often as we can.  With that in mind, here are a few choice items that I've "freshened up" this week with better scans and more attractive prices to help move them off our lonely shelves and into better surroundings.  Check out this official BEEN CAUGHT STEALING HANDCUFF PACK, which allows you both the remixed version of the classic JANE'S ADDICTION track AND working handcuffs for your private, non-musical activities!  Are you looking for a rare NEW ORDER Greatest Hits compilation with only the BEST tracks from the band AND the mighty JOY DIVISION?  Check out this cool, American 20 YEARS OF NEW ORDER CD from 2001.  We have some choice AUTOGRAPHED ITEMS that badly need happy homes -- here are two of the finest examples from two of the finest artists: THE "RARE" AUTOGRAPHED COMPILATION LP signed and dedicated by DAVID BOWIE in 1992, and one of my all-time favorite albums, JUPITER'S DARLING - AUTOGRAPHED BY ANN & NANCY WILSON of the timeless band HEART.  For a wider selection of autographed items, or additional rarities from New Order and David Bowie, check out our specialty stores by clicking on one of the banner links, below.  Have a great week, everyone!

Saul Watson - Product Promotion Tuesday 04 March 2008
Planet Rock News: Jeff Healey Dies Aged 41: Legendary guitarist Jeff Healey passed away on Sunday after a long battle with cancer. Healey, who was on the eve of releasing a brand new blues album, had been fighting the disease for the past year. Despite this, he recorded his new album and toured extensively in Canada, and had planned to tour the UK this coming Spring.

After being robbed of his sight as an infant by a rare form of cancer, Healey first started playing aged three. His unusual method of playing, with the guitar across his lap, combined with an unbelievable talent made him stand out from the crowd.

Most people’s first encounter with Healey would have been in the movie Road House with Patrick Swayze.

However, in February 2008 it was announced that he was returning to the rock genre with his new album Mess Of Blues.  The album was to be released on 20 March in the UK, with a tour to follow in April.
But on 2 March at St Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto Healey succumbed to the cancer that had haunted him for the past 12 months. He leaves a wife and two young children. He will be sorely missed in the rock world and our thoughts are with his family. Jeff Healey, 1966-2008

Mellancamp Writes Ghostly Musical: Weird collaboration of the week? It has to be John Mellancamp and horror writer Stephen King teaming up to write a musical. The long gestating musical, Ghost Brothers Of Darkland County has finally been finished after years of planning and writing (it was started in 2000).
If you’re interested, the story is set around a cabin and some ghosts that sing or something.

Paul Stanley Is A Phantom: KISS singer Paul Stanley is reportedly in line to play the Phantom in the latest incarnation of the famed musical, Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular. If he does step out as the Phantom it will be the second time in his life that he has played the faciallytroubled organist. He played the title role in the Toronto production in 1999.

Plant Turns Down £100m For Zep: A UK paper has claimed that Robert Plant has turned down £100 million to do a world tour with Led Zeppelin. The report in the Sunday Mirror says that each of the band members were offered the sum to do a tour of North America and Europe, but “Percy” turned it down.
Apparently the singer wants to focus on his forthcoming shows with Alison Krauss and wants to leave the O2 show as the band’s legacy, despite Jones and Page being keen on the tour. Kudos to Robert for standing his ground, but is this story even plausible? Any newspaper article that starts with “a source close to the band says…” is more often than not a load of rubbish, but it’s still nice to think that there are rock stars with integrity out there.

Keith: Mick's A Power Freak: Another month, another Keith Richards classic– he says that Mick’s a “power freak” and a “bit vain”, while the Led Zeppelin reunion “ain’t worth it”.
In an interview with Uncut magazine to promote the new Scorsese doc Shine A Light, Richards gave a rather brilliant description of the difference between him and Mick: "Mick's a maniac. He can't get up in the morning without knowing immediately who he's going to call. Meanwhile, I just go 'Thank God I'm awake' and wait for three or four hours before I do anything. He is a power freak and there's nothing we can do about it. I don't want to do anything about it. Let him bugger about. It doesn't make any difference to what we do."

In the interview he goes on to say that the Zep reunion left him less than enthusiastic. “Well done Jimmy and Robert. F*** off. 'Stairway To Heaven' don't make it for me, baby... I know the fascination, but it ain't worth it, pal." Thank you Keith for making the world an infinitely more entertaining place…

Eddie Undergoes Medical Tests: Rumours circulating the internet claiming Van Halen's demise are perhaps a little premature. It was reported yesterday that the band had put on hold plans to tour later this year, and this is still the case. However, the reason behind it may be medical rather than interpersonal.
According to Billboard, Eddie is undergoing medical tests which have forced the band to postpone four more dates on the band's current tour. The exact details of the medical tests haven't been revealed, but a statement from the band's management said that Eddie "is undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests to determine a defined diagnosis and recommended medical procedures". Get well soon Eddie.

March Madness and The Early '70s:
Super Rare Japanese KINKS SIZE LP -- click HERE!! Rare JIMI HENDRIX Japanese Single -- click HERE!! Rare VAN MORRISON Japanese LP -- click HERE!!

Hi Everyone.  The sun is shining, the cherry blossoms are in bloom, the stock market is plummeting... OK, that last one isn't really a sign of spring, but with the American presidential election still eight months away, things are a little up in the air!  Ahhh, to be an innocent child again, and without a worry about the state of our planet!  But how were things different in 1970, when I was still a toddler, and crawling my way around Fort Lee, New Jersey?  Music was so different then -- more connected to the world, I'd say, and more meaningful to the thinkers and the dreamers than the vice and banality rampant in music today.  Think back to how JIMI HENDRIX challenged the very definition of artistry and inspired a generation of musicians we know and love today.  Here's a super-rare pressing of Jimi's single ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER from 1969 for your consideration.  VAN MORRISON brought the complicated simplicity of his music to the masses in 1970 with HIS BAND AND THE STREET CHOIR, while that same year THE KINKS were becoming rock legends with their landmark KINKS SIZE album, featured here in it's rarest Japanese rendering.  Whatever music inspires you this spring -- or autumn below the equator -- I wish you all the best.  Have a fantastic March, everyone!
