![]() Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Friday 27 June 2008 It's raining, therefore...: it must be Glastonbury time!
For the first time that i can remember, the legendary festival hasn't sold out in advance. Hmmm, wonder if it's anything to do with the extortionate ticket prices, loads of bands you've never heard of (or hear of again), plus sitting around in a mudbath talking to Tarquin & Tabitha pretending you're having a good time is wearing a bit thin...
Much better to roll in p*ssed from the pub, make some cheese on toast, watch highlights on the excellent BBC coverage, shout abuse at the TV at the bands you don't like, then fall asleep on the sofa fully clothed.
Talking of clothes, what is that clown Mugabe doing? Apart from his ahem, 'dubious' political policies which presently mean a sandwich costs 5 million Zimbabwe dollars, his clobber alone should be enough to have him locked up and the key thrown away. Shocking...
Stephen Borkowski - UK Buyer Friday 27 June 2008 Chinese Hypocrisy: So I guess the big news this week is the 9 track leak of the Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy album. Less than 24 hours after the songs were posted on the Net, the FBI were banging down the door of the culprit - but after all these years they still don't know where Osama Bin Laden is - funny huh?
Anyway, I've heard the tracks and they're great! I can't say they were worth the 14 year wait, but they stand up well against the classics that GnR are remembered for. What will happen now? Will Axl finally decide to put the album out or will he sulk over the leak, throw a hissy fit and refuse to release the album for another 14 years? I'm guessing the latter.
Personally I like the fact that the 9 tracks run for 45 mins - it's a good length for an album. That's the problem with a too many artists, they believe that because you can fit 80+ minutes on a CD, people want the CD to be full - what about quality control? Leave all the average stuff in the vault and release a box set after a few years - Fans who want everything will buy it, but you don't subject the casual listener to your self indulgent average material. Whatever happened to All Killer No Filler?! Oh and while I'm on my soapbox - Stop re-releasing albums after 3 months with 'bonus' tracks. Save 'em for the next album - it just pisses of the people who bought the album when it was first released!
Rant over - for now........
Peter Fenton - North American Office Wednesday 25 June 2008 Formats For The Masses From Yesterday And Today: Vinyl, Compact Discs, Memorabilia, Certified Awards, T-Shirts... we've got it all covered. But what if you are looking for something out of the ordinary -- perhaps something that may have been mundane 30 years ago, but suddenly holds significance as a valuable blast-from-the-past? If you are under 35, you may not remember the 8-track tape. I can't even tell you how the 8-track machines worked, but I remember having an 8-track player in our family, and I remember breaking it by pushing the "change program" button a million times because I liked the mechanical response as it clicked through the songs. We do carry a variety of 8-track cassettes, and we even have available a legendary specimen in the form of this BEATLES - LIVE AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL US 5-TRACK SAMPLER 8-TRACK FORMAT, which remains STILL SEALED FROM NEW over 30 years after it was first distributed solely for promotional use in 1977. There will be other Beatles and Apple related 8-tracks hitting our system in the next week, almost all of them still sealed from new, so be sure to check MY LATEST ARRIVALS PAGE for newly added items, and please feel free to browse our illustrious BEATLES COLLECTORS STORE for all of the latest and greatest Fab Four rarities we have available today. If you have a preference for your specific solo Beatle of choice, we also have dedicated collectors stores for PAUL, JOHN, GEORGE and RINGO for you to peruse, as well as a specialty link page dedicated to APPLE LABEL ARTISTS. Have a great week, everyone!
Michael Cambridge - UK Northern Office Tuesday 24 June 2008 The Joy Of Euro 2008: As regular bloggers will know I'm not a football fan and the up side to England not being in the competition is that we don't have to endure those nauseating displays of 'national pride' with flags in every window around the country. At least at Wimbledon we have as much chance of winning as a one legged pensioner winning the London marathon. So the message is get behind a British sportsman who sometimes actually wins with Lewis Hamilton, who is suffering at the hands of the 'build them up to break them down' British Media. Show me a sportsman who never makes mistakes and i'll eat my own trousers....
Saul Watson - Product Promotion Monday 23 June 2008 Planet Rock Win Again!: Planet Rock, the UK’s highly acclaimed digital radio station has hit a new high, picking up two prestigious global radio awards in New York.
Rock legend presenters Fish and Gary Moore were both given Gold World Medals for Best Regularly Scheduled Music Programmes at The New York Festival Radio Broadcasting Awards. Fish won for his ‘Fish On Friday’ programme and Gary Moore for ‘Gary Moore – Bluespower’. Picking up both awards on behalf of the station Fish told the audience that great rock music had a global epicentre in Planet Rock. The station’s new owner Malcolm Bluemel, who acquired the station from Gcap Media earlier this month, celebrated the double win. “That’s why I came on board!” said Malcolm. “Rock legends want to work here, rock fans want to listen to us and now the world is getting tuned in to what we are doing. “Part of the plan is to put a lot of emphasis in to our on-line offering giving us a truly global platform for Planet Rock. This double award is a major milestone for the development of the station. “Maybe some advertising execs need to take another look at us – and realise what’s happening here.” Recent figures showed that the station had amassed a weekly reach of 563,000 (RAJAR Q108) beating a number of BBC national networks.
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Monday 23 June 2008 I do like to be beside the seaside...: Especially when watching the marvellous Goldfrapp at the stunning De La Warr Pavillion at Bexhill-on-Sea. A brilliant gig which was a bit of a low-key warm up for their forthcoming tour. Excellent venue, superb sound and scantily-clad babes dancing round a maypole. What more do you want...?
After my tips for the Euro's over the weekend, i think i'll steer clear of that and move on to Wimbledon where i confidently predict British players will win nothing, although Andy Murray has certainly got more about him than that ultimate Great British loser Henman ever had.
I quite like Murray - He always looks scruffier than me and he's got a good haircut.
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Friday 20 June 2008 Blood out of a stone...: Being sorted and added over the coming days will be a lovely batch of Island label vinyl LP's ranging from rare originals to little known re-issues. Keep checking the site for all the latest goodies.
Good deed for the day - Gave blood last night for the first time and fairly painless it was too. And if you're not convinced by that, you get free drinks & biscuits afterwards, which definitely swayed it for me. http://www.blood.co.uk/. Go and do it.
Top tip for the day - Croatia, Holland & Italy to qualify for the euro semi's.
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Monday 16 June 2008 Audiophilia...: Being added as i type are a lovely batch of audiophile vinyl albums ranging from The Beatles to Zappa. Check them out at my latest arrivals page or, for more in-depth information, in our dedicated audiophile section.

Peter Fenton - North American Office Saturday 14 June 2008 Listening Is Believing!: Hi Everyone. Although vinyl is making a fast comeback, and many swear that vinyl gives them a richer, fuller sound lacking in the DDD realm of Compact Discs, there is a "top of the line" Compact Disc that many consider to offer superior quality and range. Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs has reissued many classic albums from many musical genres onto 24kt "Ultradiscs." Most of these CDs were available through regular retail outlets, but have since become SERIOUSLY rare and sought after, as the diminished MP3 quality that the masses now utilize has given more prestige to the now out-of-print, top-end "MoFi" CDs. A few examples newly stocked for your attention include specimens by the likes of JONI MITCHELL, ELTON JOHN, THE CARPENTERS, JEFF BECK, and 10CC. To be transported to our AUDIOPHILE STORE, simply click the banner below, or if Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs is your greatest desire CLICK HERE FOR OUR OUR MO-FI LIST. Listening is believing! Have a great week, everyone.

Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Tuesday 10 June 2008 Modfather...: Hot on the heels of his new '22 Dreams' album, there's some classic Paul Weller original vinyl LP's back in stock + titles from The Jam & Style Council. Be quick kids - very limited stock available, as they say...
On a slightly different note, good to see the fabulous Art Deco Midland Hotel in Morecambe being re-opened after it's restoration. Simply stunning and almost worth going up North for...
Michael Cambridge - UK Northern Office Friday 06 June 2008 Madness: Forget the credit crunch, mortgage despair, housing crisis and unwinnable wars as it seems our lame government has!. The latest high profile announcement from Whitehall isn't tackling our heavy reliance on borrowing or stemming the blood loss in the housing market, it's answer is providing free swimming - God help us!!.
What next free condom's for over 80's??.
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Friday 06 June 2008 worth a gamble...: No shortage of top class sporting events this weekend with the beginning of Euro 2008, minus England of course but well worth it if it meant getting rid of McClown, who is in the same league as Willie Walsh & Adam Crozier in the completely incompetent managerial stakes.
A very open tournament in prospect and i'm celebrating it by planning to eat the food of one of the competing nations playing on each day, so tomorrow it will be a serious Turkish kebab. Sunday could be interesting - Schnitzel (Austria) followed by copious amounts of beer (Germany) & vodka (Poland) is on the cards...
Also tomorrow, there's another of the great British sporting institutions - The Derby at Epsom. Haven't studied the form closely yet but Curtain Call stands out purely cos it's a a great Damned track, while locally named Maidstone Mixture must have 3 legs judging by it's chances...
Saul Watson - Product Promotion Wednesday 04 June 2008 BREAKING NEWS!!! BREAKING NEWS!!!: Fantastic news just in from our good friends over at Planet Rock.Four British rock stars and one rock and radio fanatic have teamed up to save the digital Radio Station from closure – and help build the brand, it was announced today (Thursday June 5th). Rock and radio fan Malcolm Bluemel’s acquisition from GCAP Media is supported by some of rock’s biggest names -- Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson MBE, Gary Moore, and Fish – and saves Planet Rock from certain closure. Thousands of fans were outraged and banged the drum to keep their favourite station on air – petitioning amongst others The Prime Minister and OFCOM to ‘Save Our Station’. Fish joined his starry colleagues in welcoming the announcement: “I always knew that there was a visionary out there who would see the huge potential that Planet Rock has to offer. I am sure that the station will go from strength to strength.” The consortium, headed by millionaire Bluemel, has plans to exploit the station’s unrivalled demographic to maximise revenues. “The people at Planet Rock and their listeners are passionate about their music and their station, which is why I wanted to step in and help make it happen. “Rock fans have been traditionally very poorly served in this country and Planet Rock is the place for them to feed their fanaticism.” Bluemel, 55, who is helping to organise a reunion for former Radio Luxembourg DJs in the Grand Duchy this August, is fanatical about radio. “I share the station’s passion for rock and radio. I marched in the 60s when Harold Wilson announced that he was shutting down the pirates. “It has an authenticity and integrity booming out of it. Now we aim to take it to the next level, preserve all that’s great about the output and utilise other platforms to serve an even bigger audience in a wider variety of ways. “The fact that so many artists have come together to help make this happen is testimony to the importance of the station.” The development will act as a very positive marker for the digital radio industry. Planet Rock’s listening figures are at an all time high, with a weekly reach of nearly 600,000 – better than a number of national BBC radio networks. Trevor White, Programme Director for Planet Rock, said: “To say we’re happy with the news would be an understatement. Rock fans waited 30 years for Planet Rock, a radio station that only played classic rock, and it would have been a crime to let it die. There were many parties interested in buying Planet Rock but it was Malcolm’s team’s love for the station and for radio that made them the obvious choice. “There’s no other radio station that embraces classic rock music as passionately as we do. Now we are owned by people who care solely for Planet Rock and are no longer a part of a huge group, we will go from strength to strength. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the thousands of listeners across the world who have overwhelmed us with their encouragement and support. ” Ian Anderson MBE, from Jethro Tull, said: “Onwards and upwards -- from the threat of extinction to a fantastic future, with a little help from its friends. I am personally delighted that the show goes on, as it must, since our heritage of great British rock music is too important to see slip away from national radio.” Gary Moore paid tribute to fellow presenters and the backroom staff who had worked tirelessly to secure a bright future for the station. “A national treasure has been saved for the nation and I look forward to seeing it build on its strengths and current success.” Planet Rock was voted Sony Digital Station of the year at this year’s Sony awards. It broadcasts on DAB Digital Radio across the UK and online at www.planetrock.com, playing album-based, guitar-driven melodic classic rock music featuring bespoke interviews, live recordings and presenting by rock heroes such as Alice Cooper, Gary Moore, Tony Iommi, Nicky Horne and Rick Wakeman. If you haven't already check out Planet Rock on the following platforms: National DAB Digital Radio * online at www.planetrock.com * Sky Channel 0110 * Cable TV Channel 924

Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Monday 02 June 2008 Who are ya...: More by luck than judgment i caught the 'Amazing Journey - The Story Of The Who' on BBC 2 on Friday night and it was well worth staying up into the early hours for.
Interesting and informative, certainly for anyone who's not a harcore Who nut, it made me realise 2 things. The Who had better songs than both the Beatles or the Stones and Keith Moon was the best drummer in the world. Ever.
Didn't think there was much happening in the sporting world last week but lo and behold, Usain Bolt goes and breaks the 100m sprint world record at just 21 years of age. Seeing the clip on the news, i'm not surprised because his legs are ginormus.
It's rumoured he could be even faster than our resident IT bod John (Kentucky) Thomson when he hears the tuck lady turn up in her van each morning...
Stephen Borkowski - UK Buyer Monday 02 June 2008 Mirror Mirror On The Wall.....: I am pleased to announce a very exciting collection that we recently obtained. We have been chosen by the legendary concert promoter Mel Bush to sell part of his cherished archive of promotional material from the 70's and 80's. For those of you that are not aware of his work, Mel was one of the biggest concert promoters of the 1970's having promoted concerts by the biggest names of the decade such as Queen, Cliff Richard, Elton John, David Bowie, The Jam and naturally Led Zeppelin - The list goes on and so did his work, right through the 1980's. He promoted such high profile gigs as Wham! The Final and numerous multi artist events such as The Princes Trust concerts.
At this time what we are able to offer are Mel's prized collection of commemorative mirrors. These are visually stunning display pieces that were commissioned by Mel and presented to a band or artist to congratulate them on a successful concert or tour. Mel always kept a duplicate for himself as a souvenir but feels the time has come to share this spectacular items with the fans of the bands he promoted all those years ago.
Over the next week or so we will be advertising mirrors by the following artists
Led Zeppelin
The Jam
Wham!
Santana
Roxy Music
Bryan Ferry
Wings
Osmonds
Slade
Queen
David Bowie
Vanessa Mae
Kim Wilde
A-Ha
Bad Company
Elton John
Jean Michel Jarre
and more.....
Keep checking the website as it may take a few days for the one you're waiting for to appear, but be warned, they will be sold on a first come, first serve basis and once they're gone the're gone, remember the only people who ever had these items were Mel Bush and the band they were presented to!
