"FACE" THE MUSIC:

DAVID BOWIE LIFE MASK -- click HERE!! DAVID BOWIE LIFE MASK -- click HERE!!
Hi Everyone.  Every now and then, we stumble across a rarity that truly stands out from the crowd, and demands both wonderment and respect.  One such item new to our vault is this amazing DAVID BOWIE ORIGINAL LIFE MASK.  Officially commisioned in 1976 for the movie The Man Who Fell To Earth, this mask captures a moment in time in the life of a true music icon and a rock legend.  More than any photo or video recording ever could, every pore and line from Bowie's celebrated face is displayed for posterity, and is frozen in time from his then-age of twenty-nine.  Its hand-annotated, numbered etching autheticates this museum-quality piece, and it is artfully presented on a lucite tray lined with black velvet.  You'd be hard-pressed to find a more distinctive or exceptional Bowie collectable, but you can certainly try by checking out our illustrious DAVID BOWIE COLLECTORS STORE!  Have a great week, everyone.

I think you're missing something: You people call yourselves collectors yet for some unknown reason these examples of first class collectables remain on our shelves despite the massive reduction in price.

Forget your Hulk, Fantastic 4, Spiderman and Batman. This is where you will find a real comic book hero.

VANILLA ICE!!! Yes indeedy, Ice Ice Baby!

This may not seem like the sort of collectable you would normally go for but think about it. Spend a measly £2.99 you will get a fantastically drawn account of the rise of one of the most played artists of the 90s.

Once they are gone then they are gone. So don't hang around.

If there was a problem yo I'll solve it, check out the hook while my DJ revolves it!!

Ya know ya want to!

(I have now removed my tongue firmly form my cheek) Smile

Elvis Is Still Big In Las Vegas:

Peter Vallee is BIG ELVIS, appearing LIVE daily in Las Vegas!
Hi Everyone.  Las Vegas offers both the resident and tourist so many entertainment choices.  However, after living here for nearly nine years, my friends were surprised that I had never gone to see any of Elvis Presley's three daily performances on the Las Vegas Strip.  OK, so it's not exactly the Elvis you might expect, but rather BIG ELVIS.  So, last night I went to check out his show, and I must admit that I was thoroughly entertained!  He sang the songs that you'd want to hear -- Viva Las Vegas was certainly a compulsory song -- and the frothy PIñA COLADA at the lounge was a nice compliment to the novelty of seeing a true Elvis tribute lovingly performed.  I was surprised to hear that Big Elvis has lost over 500 pounds in weight over the last three years -- that's 36 stone for any Brits reading this Blog, or 227 kg for the rest of you!  He's still pretty big, and is aiming to lose another 150 pounds in the months to come.  The next time you find yourself in Sin City, Elvis has not yet left the building, so be sure to check him out!  And if you are looking to browse our "weighty" selection of ELVIS PRESLEY COLLECTABLES, please click the Elvis banner below.  Have a great week, everyone!

Planet Rock News:: Stills Discovers Forgotten Hendrix Tapes: Stephen Stills has discovered a long forgotten album that he recorded with Jimi Hendrix, and he’s apparently preparing it for release.

Contactmusic.com reports that Stills’ bandmate, Graham Nash told the Las Vegas Sun that the album had been found in a stack of material at his house.

The album was apparently recorded around 1970, shortly before Hendrix’s death. According to Nash, Stills recorded everything around this period and somehow had simply forgotten about this particular recording.

"He has an enormous history of recording. In the '70s, he was a recording fool,” Nash told reporters. “He just found a bloody album he made with Hendrix. We've got to listen to that... I want to listen to every track he ever recorded in case he recorded with Al Jolson." Nash and Stills are currently cleaning up the tapes for release.

Springsteen Charity Release: Bruce Springsteen will release a new download only Live EP called Magic Tour Highlights on 15 July.

The four track release is available only from digital retailers, and it features four very special performances of tracks from the recent "Magic" tour. Three of the tracks feature very special guest appearances from Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine and Roger McGuinn of The Byrds.

But perhaps the most worthwhile track is the final performance by late E Street member Danny Federici on ‘Sandy’, which was recorded in Indianapolis in March shortly before his tragic death from cancer.

All the tracks come with an accompanying video, and all profits from sales of the EP will go to the Danny Federici Melanoma Fund, as artists, record labels and iTunes store have agreed to waive their fees.

When Alice met Jim: Planet Rock’s breakfast show host Alice Cooper, gives a personal insight to the iconic frontman - Jim Morrison and talks about the times that he spent with him.

The show will also include some Doors’ classics ‘Spanish Caravan’ and ‘Roadhouse Blues’.

‘When Alice met Jim’ will be broadcast on Sunday 27th July 6pm (UK time) and will be repeated on Friday 1st August 6pm.

Leak Of The Week:
Following my recent blog entry about the long awaited Guns N Roses album, over the last week another high profile project has leaked onto the net in the shape of a song entitled Hold My Hand, a colaboration between Akon and Michael Jackson. There's been much speculation as to whether or not the leak was intentional or not. Some sources suggest that these recent leaks are no more than a marketing ploy by record companies to gauge fan reaction and build hype - would they do such a thing? Of course!
I've heard Akon/Jacko song and I believe it will be huge if/when it gets released. It's very radio friendly, reminiscent of Whitney Houston's My Love Is Your Love or the more recent No Air by Jordan Sparks and Chris Brown, it has a slow rhythmic beat with Akon/Jacko trading lines and harmonising. The song is simple, almost to the point of being bland, so no doubt there will be loads of remixes if the song does ever get released, though I won't hold my breath as I'm still waiting for the release of the Michael Jackson/Freddie Mercury collaborations from 1985!

Are You Feeling Vicious?: Today is one of those happy days in the job when I can offer you an absolutely simply stunning hand drawn Sid Vicious drawing from 1978. Complete with excellent provenance from the noted Punk Photographer Mariah Aguira. If that wasn't enough it is also due to be published in a posthumous book next year. A staggering item!!

Farmyard antics: After avoiding the afternoon rain, I made my way to the Hop Farm festival in deepest, darkest Kent last weekend to see it's inaugural music festival which was headlined by the legendary Neil Young and very good he was too, with a set of old classics, 15 minute epics and a few i didn't know.

All good fun but there's so many festivals now, they all seem a bit of a soul-less money making exercise for both promotors and artists. Was it worth missing the tennis for? Debatable and this was one of the better organised events i've attended...

Planet Rock News: Dead Ready To Play Again The surviving members of the Grateful Dead may reunite to support US Presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s election campaign.

Speaking to Billboard.com, Mickey Hart said that Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and himself are ready to do their part if called upon.

"We're not making plans, but I think we stand at the ready to be of service," Hart says. "We're all deeply into this, into Barack Obama and the thought of taking this country back in some shape or form, what's left of it -- it's probably one thing we can all agree on! So, you bet, I would spend a night with my brothers for that any time, any place."

Whitesnake guitarist Dies: Former Whitesnake guitarist Mel Galley has passed away at the age 60.

The Express & Star reports that Mel passed away last night at his home in Heath Hayes from cancer of the esophagus.

After forming Trapeze in 1969 with the future Deep Purple/Voice Of God man, Glenn Hughes, Mel spent over fifteen years establishing the band as a solid, and vastly underrated, rock band. Medusa, You Are The Music We’re Just The Band and Hold On are fantastic, but often overlooked albums.

In 1982 a chance encounter with David Coverdale at Monsters of Rock led Mel to join the line-up of Whitesnake. With them he appeared on two of the finest rock albums of the 1980s, Saints & Sinners and Slide It In. An accident on their European tour in 1984 which damaged the nerves in his arm forced Mel to cut short his burgeoning Whitesnake career.

All was not lost, however, as Mel came storming back in 1986 with MGM alongside fellow Whitesnake alumni Bernie Marsden and Neil Murray. The band toured extensively to rave reviews.

In 1992 a 25th Anniversary Trapeze tour saw Glenn Hughes return to the line-up for the last time as Mel essentially retired from performing. However, in February 2008 Mel was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Bad Company Reunite: Paul Rodgers will reunite with Simon Kirke and Mick Ralphs to play a one-off show as Bad Company in Hollywood next month.

By performing this one-off show, the band are protecting their name as a trademark for the future. The move was apparently necessary as they had learned that several other bogus Bad Companys were due to start touring under the name.

And while this may be the last time for the foreseeable future that you’ll see Rodgers with Bad Company, Mick Ralphs will be taking the band out on the road for several festivals in Britain this summer.

Meanwhile, Paul Rodgers has that small matter of the huge, sold out Queen tour and new album to think about. Our Queen aficionado Steve is absolutely beside himself with excitement over the tour. Ask him. Go on I dare you. LOL

Vocal trickery?:
I originally intended to rant on about the absurd cost of ticket prices today and in particular the booking fees, handling charges and postage costs that companies such as Ticketbastard charge, however this morning, after a good night out I decided against it (maybe next week...) The reason being is that I was taken back to my distant youth when New Romantics were all the rage and went to see Duran Duran the O2 arena.

I first saw DD back in '05 when the fully reformed group played Wembley. I grew I up listening to them but never got around to seeing them live before this. I was warned by a few people how bad LeBons voice was live, even back in their hayday I was told it wasn't great. I listened to a couple of old BBC radio shows and bootlegs that were kicking around the office and feared the worst, however I was pleasantly surprised - maybe his voice has got better with age or perhaps there's some good technology backstage assisting him. There were certainly times when you would've expected the camera to be focused on LeBon hitting a big or high note and you'd look at the screen to see an image of Andy or Nick Rhodes.

The Duke Spirit opened for them this time around (last time it was Goldfrapp), they played a competent set and the sound was good which is unusual for a support band. Duran hit the stage around 9pm and the crowd, consiting mostly of thirtysomethings went wild. Unfortunately this didn't last long, I would say it lasted until they started playing the first song! The atmosphere just evaporated and the only reasonable explanation is because it was a track from the latest album Red Carpet Massacre which bombed badly. The crowd were here for The Reflex, Girls on Film, Rio and the other classics and while they did play these songs, other big hits such as Is There Something I Should Know were omitted in favour of 5 or 6 tracks from the new album. The crowd reaction to these songs was instant and must have been noticable from the stage. As soon as a new song started people went to the bar/toilets in their droves, but as soon as they launched into one of their hits the place erupted again.
Personally I'm not a fan of the latest album, I think it has a few good songs on it but I'm sick of hearing Timbaland on everything - it all sounds the same! Despite the overall crowd reaction I was surprised at how good the newer material sounded live and how it complemented the old stuff and it goes to prove that whilst other bands are reforming and going on Nostagia/Cash In tours Duran Duran are trying to stay current and relevant rather than purely churning out a greatest hits set.
Next week - Hucknall, a Tribute to Bobby.......................

Good news/bad news...: After me knocking any chance of a home-grown winner at Wimbledon, Scot Andy Murray put in an awesome display last night to reach the quarter-finals of the mens singles last night after an epic 5-set thriller.
It just proves the fact that top class sporting theatre is as good as any entertainment around. Passionate, unrehearsed drama.

On the downside, there's rumours (please God, let it be untrue) of a Bros comeback tour, which is just what the world needs. Matt Goss said "If we can make the numbers work and the venues work, then we're all up for it", so his heart is obviously in it. Passionless, rehearsed, pantomime.

Don't stand on any landmines will you Matt...
