![]() Richard Austin - UK Office Thursday 31 January 2008 If there is one thing worse than being spinning drunk ...: ... it's feeling the same but without having had the pleasure of several pint of foaming ale first.
Still, stiff upper lip & on with the show. At my age it's probably the best I can hope for.
Today's letter was 'S' - a nice & easy choice but somehow most of the CDs I supplied for aural delectation remained unplayed. Still, we had some Sonic Youth which was fun & Skids & The Smiths which were OK. I myself managed to warp back to 1973 & ended up playing Slayed? & Next by the Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
Still sitting on my desk for the next 'S' day are Small Faces, Split Enz, The Soft Boys, The Strawberry Alarm Clock & Show Of Hands.
I must confess that when everyone had gone, I declared 'S' complete & played the new Tom Palmer CD - well, it does feature all of Show Of Hands, so it's not as much of a departure as Julian playing All About Eve on 'E' day !!!
The beat goes on ...
Simon Wright - UK Chart Product & Imports Wednesday 30 January 2008 a MAGICAL MYSTERY signature....: I have just obtained this fantastic official Souvenir Programme for 'Liverpool's Second Great Mersey Beatle Extravaganza' which was held in August 1982 at the Adelphi Hotel. Despite being over 25 years old it is in great condition but before putting it up for sale we need your help!
It has been autographed by Bob Wooler, Mojo Filter and Norman Killon plus one other mysterious signature…? Look at the image above and see if you can put a name to the scribble with a Fab Four connection. You think you know? Then email simon.wright@eil.com and if you're correct I'll find you a special prize !!
Matt Lambert - UK Chart Product & Imports Tuesday 29 January 2008 More Japanese Jewels!: Some more superb paper sleeve Japanese CDs in stock! We've got titles from Janis Joplin, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Genesis, Laura Nyro and more! Also, check out our Japanese section for more great titles from a wide variety of artists!
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Tuesday 29 January 2008 Ouch!: My elbow hurts which is rather ironic after attending a first aid course last Friday. Still, mustn't grumble... although i will cos it's getting on my nerves now.
Right, i was going to tell you about the rather collectable Amy Winehouse 'Back To Black - The Album Remixes' promotional 2-CD set but they've all gone so look out instead for some rather nifty Mobile Fidelity/audiophile vinyl being added in the near future including a lovely Earl Klugh UHQR box set.
Get in...
Michael Cambridge - UK Northern Office Monday 28 January 2008 Baby On Board!!: A familiar rant this week with those bloody Baby on Board signs that are increasingly taking over 'People Carriers' across the country. Are we supposed to assume that were it not for these signs we would routinely run straight into the back of these vehicles. I can see it now with thousands of drivers gearing up to tailgate a vehicle until they are stopped in their tracks by a pink shaped sign sat above a damn nodding Churchill dog. Give me break.............
Oh and on the subject of new items hitting our website check out several beautiful Queen items as well as a multitude of CD single from all genres and box sets a plenty - Collecting has never been so much fun...
Peter Fenton - North American Office Monday 28 January 2008 Genesis, Beatles... and I'm Wrecked: Hi Everyone. The Steve/Peter eil.com road trip rolls on, and the amount of new stock we’ve uncovered is truly staggering. I think it will start hitting our site as soon as Wednesday morning, so watch this space for nearly 1,000 new additions priced from cheap-cheap-cheap to slightly-less-than-cheap, including a wide range of rarities from authentic backstage tour passes to sealed '60s and '70s BEATLES LP’s. While making our buying rounds, people seem to be fawning all over Steve wherever we go, but then telling me that I look “really tired” or “wrecked.” OK, perhaps Steve still has youth on his side (…barely!) but I have bigger hair, and I can eat more than he can. Not to change the subject, but… I have two recent American GENESIS collectables to bring to your attention, both from the band's recent career retrospective remasters. The first is the GENESIS -- COMPLETE 12-DISC ADVANCE SET, which remains shrink-wrapped together, just as it was sent out to media for review and radio consideration. The second is the GENESIS -- 6-DISC ADVANCE ALBUM COLLECTION SET, which is presented in unique packaging different to the commercial release you may already own. If you are looking for some cool and rare Genesis memorabilia perfect for display, check out this handsome and official GENESIS -- WE CAN’T DANCE HAND-NUMBERED LITHO from 1991. As I prepare to send the lovely Steve back to his homeland this week to face a dreary and damp United Kingdom, I hope the rest of you manage to stay as dry and warm as you may desire. Have a great week, everyone!
Julian Thomas - UK Office Friday 25 January 2008 I love it when a plan comes together: First name, Mister.
Second name, period. Last name, Teeeee. Yes, today's letter is 'T', which so
far stands for tranquillity as I have the whole place to myself. Steve &
Peter are jointly trying to relieve California of all its rare records &
memorabilia, Richard has finally succumbed to the latest round of viral
infections and has retired, unbalanced & dizzy (no noticeable change!), and
Mark is today on a first aid training course, hopefully learning how to make
Richard better. The decks are static & the amplifier is not even
humming...peace reigns. Except for the damn phone ringing all the time! On the
up side, I have bought a rather nice Beatles Please Please Me black & gold
label STEREO LP, a Queen Bohemian Rhapsody blue vinyl 7", the legendary Sex
Pistols God Save The Queen A&M single, a Damned Neat Neat Neat Japanese 7"
and even a Syd Barrett Octopus French single. Wow, what a morning. I really am
in the 'A' Team (and not Howling Mad as some of you may
suggest...!)
Peter Fenton - North American Office Thursday 24 January 2008 Road Rage, Lasagne, and The Pretty, Pretty Snow: Hi Everyone. I'm on the road this week with fellow eil.com buyer Steve. After his 11 hour plane journey from

Sir Paul McCartney is to stage an exhibition of photographs by his late wife Linda...The former Beatle has spent the past three years putting together the show, which will mark the tenth anniversary of her deathIt includes images of stars such as Jim Morrison and John Lennon, and intimate portraits of McCartney family life.
This is the first major exhibition of Linda's photographs to be staged in the UK, and spans her career from the 1960s to shortly before her death in April 1998.The exhibition will also feature landscapes, self-portraits and family snaps. Some have rarely been seen before in public. The photographs will be offered for sale in very limited editions, authenticated with a certificate signed by Sir Paul. Glastonbury Festival will stage an event in Liverpool... as part of the City of Culture celebrations, it has been announced. The union organisers who run the Left Field area of Glastonbury will host an evening of music showcasing local bands on May 14. Record company EMI... have denied The Rolling Stones have severed their multi-million pound contract with them. The denial comes after the band confirmed they have signed a one-album deal with Universal to release the soundtrack CD to Martin Scorsese's film 'Shine A Light', due to be released in March. The album will be released physically and digitally across Universal Music's labels worldwide and by Polydor Records in the UK. EMI are currently under fire for announcing plans to axe up to a third of the workforce in a move the company are billing as a "revolutionary" overhaul to the business. A spokesman for The Rolling Stones said: "The band are looking forward to working with Universal Music and are excited about this new venture." But a spokesman for EMI later clarified: "The Rolling Stones have not signed to Universal and they have not left EMI."

Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Monday 21 January 2008 Naughty, noisy but nice...: with the playlist letter today being 'n' and after a (brief 27-minute 42-track!!!) experimental foray into thrash jazz with Naked City, we moved on to the marvellous Neu, an excellent '20 Years Of New Order' compilation before Richard pulled out the stops by remembering the fantastic 60's-inspired Naz Nomad & The Nightmares 'Give Daddy The Knife Cindy' album, which may or may not have involved certain members of The Damned...
After hearing about my complete lack of knowledge regarding original stuff from that period Riccardo is now giving us all a crash course with the 'Nuggets' box set and talking about mind-bending drugs and dodgy clobber (or was that mind-bending clobber and dodgy drugs...)
And this is before i've even had a chance to get on the mighty NIN debut 'Pretty Hate Machine' LP!
Michael Cambridge - UK Northern Office Monday 21 January 2008 Queen Rarities Up For Grabs: Greetings - An absolute treat for all you Queen collectors out there, with some of the finest pieces ever just arrived, including restocking the amazing Freddie Mercury owned Guitar which we purchased back from a customer who has relocated. Peter Fenton - North American Office Saturday 19 January 2008 Essential AND Affordable? ...YES!!: Hi Everyone. It’s true that we have music for all tastes, and collectables for every budget. Although the highest profile items often tend to be the more expensive ones, there are definitely some supreme bargains to be had from our shelves. If you are looking to expand your horizons, there are a LOT of affordable gems especially worthy of your attention. One great example is this spectacular LIVE release from the electronic pioneers of music, KRAFTWERK. Released in 2005, MINIMUM/MAXIMUM contains ALL of their best hits spread over 2 Compact Discs, and is presented in a unique slipcase sleeve. Issued as a limited edition release in 1998, PICTURE THIS LIVE by BLONDIE captures an iconic band at the very top of their game, and features 15 electrifying live performances from their huge catalogue of hits. OK, I know that Christmas is the LAST thing on your mind right now, but if you are looking for a little holiday joy to put you back into a December haze, check out this long-deleted album recorded by OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN and VINCE GILL with the London Symphony Orchestra, entitled ‘TIS THE SEASON. If you are a fan of MANIC STREET PREACHERS, this rare and official THIS IS MY TRUTH REMIX ALBUM from 1999 still ranks high on the must-have list of both collectors and fans of the band. However you decide to spend your nickels and dimes, have a great week, everyone!

Julian Thomas - UK Office Friday 18 January 2008 A book at bedtime: Being a confirmed
petrolhead I was pleased to receive for Christmas a copy of Jackie Stewart's
autobiography, Winning Is Not Enough, which I finished reading last night.
Whilst he retired from his F1 career long before I became a fan I was, naturally
enough, aware of him as a triple World Champion, but I was not so familiar with
the racing era in which he largely dominated. His subsequent business career is
equally fascinating and the lengths he goes to in his attention for detail is
quite remarkable. Sadly, one of the most remarkable comments in the entire book
relates to the loss of friends & fellow racers in what was undoubtedly a
properly dangerous period to be circuit racing - he attended something like 57
funerals in under 10 years! Truly shocking.

Simon Wright - UK Chart Product & Imports Friday 18 January 2008 coward of the COUNTY: Right here's something for you to think about over the weekend…
During a night of drunkenness in the local licensed establishment [which as is tradition and much to the annoyance of the landlord, resulted in oversized male members & female funbags being drawn across the dartboard!] we devised a game in which English counties must replace words in famous songs. Here's a couple of examples…

Richard Austin - UK Office Thursday 17 January 2008 C is for ...: Julian Cope, The Church, John Coltrane, Cocteau Twins, Comsat Angels, Camel, Alice Cooper, Colosseum, Colourbox .... oh, and Derek. I've also changed my ISP & am now getting double the speed for the same price on the same line with the same settings - result, apart from having to have a new email address for the first time in ten years.
Plus my broken head from yesterday is also on the mend.
All in all, a great day :-)

Richard Austin - UK Office Wednesday 16 January 2008 2B or not 2B ?: Well, here we are again and todays letter (after the let off we had yesterday with the much feared "Q") was "B". Easy peasy.Apart from the obvious Beatles (too easy), we have so far sampled the delights of the sadly missed & much under rated Adrian Borland, the equally missed Jeff Buckley, The Beach Boys & Brand X. Still to come we have the delights of the Bonzos, The Barracudas, The Buzzcocks, the magnificent Arthur Brown, the equally magnificent Jeff Beck & even Pat Benatar. This is a good game, even for the semi concussed like myself, who somehow managed to head butt a door frame this morning while trying to avoid unnecessarily damaging a colleague. Given the mountainous bump that has since flowered on my head, in hindsight perhaps I should have just sent Laura flying into the mailbags instead.
OK, I shall forgive Laura this time - B is also for Bump.

Richard Austin - UK Office Tuesday 15 January 2008 Back where you are with the fish, it's always 1928 ...: Ok. Now that my tickets are secured, I can reveal the event of the year so far.
The wonderful Barbican Centre in London is screening one of the greatest films ever made, G.W. Pabst's extraordinary film noir 'Pandora's Box' with live piano accompaniment by Andrew Youdell.
There are still a few tickets left at £8.50 (or £6 for members) that can be booked HERE.
Sunday 27 January 2008, 4PM - Put it in your diary.
Julian Thomas - UK Office Tuesday 15 January 2008 Cue the letter Q: Honest, Steve, it was totally legit! Yes, today's letter is Q, and our friendly Queen fanatic just happens to be on holiday so the rest of us have been spared the warbling and twanging of Mercury & May. I have to say the 'Q' section of my collection is somewhat sparse, so I had a lateral thinking moment and have decided that the following all qualify for inclusion in today's playlist. First up, a jazz classic from the Dave Brubeck Quartet, followed by a Late Spot At Scott's masterclass from the wonderfully talented Tubby Hayes Quintet. And, if there's time, perhaps a little offering from the Horace Silver Quintet and a superb recording live at the Ealing Jazz Festival from the Tony Kinsey Quartet. All's fair in love & war, eh!
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Monday 14 January 2008 180!!!: As my darts blog idea has been usurped by our northern correspondent, i was going to continue the sporting theme with anyone for tennis as the Australian open started today.
Unfortunately, the British presence in the shape of Andy Murray has already gone out in the first round. Very Tim Henman...
Oh well, todays playlist letter was 'w' and has included back catalogue from The Wonder Stuff, Wildhearts and the surprisingly good Wallflowers featuring Jakob Dylan, son of Bob. Nowhere near as irritiating as his ol' man.
Richard Austin - UK Office Monday 14 January 2008 Yum!:
Michael Cambridge - UK Northern Office Monday 14 January 2008 Can I Have a F please Bob!!: In the spirit of the current Kent fascination with playing music with artists all starting with the same letter, the Northern Office offers a suggestion. Todays letter should be 'F' and may I suggest Flux Of Pink Indians to start the day. More from me later today!!
Peter Fenton - North American Office Sunday 13 January 2008 Election Year Politics: ![]() ![]() Hi Everyone! I'm pleased to be away from my home state of Nevada today. You may have heard that America has a "little" election later this year for a President to replace your pal George W. Bush. I live in a state that is third in the nation to help determine the final candidates who will compete for President in November. Although that sounds exciting, what it REALLY means is that the entire pool of candidates is SO desperate for EVERY last vote, registered voters such as myself are getting bombarded with phone calls day and night from campaigns, polling surveys and political organizations. If I get one more call from either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama's people, I'm just going to vote for Madonna or Kylie on Thursday, instead! For those of you into The 4AD Scene, check out this really cool 4AD COLLECTORS SET, which was limited to only 300 copies distributed worldwide, and features an exclusive PIXIES live album, as well as best-selling 4AD albums from Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance and Lush. Have you seen the New Alanis Morissette Video for her forthcoming single, Underneath? I'm glad to see Alanis hasn't changed her signature sound, and I am definitely looking forward to her soon-to-be-released new album, Flavors of Entanglement. I'm also pleased to report that I stumbled upon the forthcoming Symphony album by Sarah Brightman today, and it is both lush and riveting, just as you might expect... Have a fantastic week, everyone! Wherever you live, and however you choose, MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT in '08!
Michael Cambridge - UK Northern Office Friday 11 January 2008 Let's Play Darts!!: Apologies for the lack of blog entries this week, as I have been out travelling in search of rarities [Of which I have many]. In between I have been avidly watching the Darts championship on TV. I was intending to highlight several items today, however our 'sickness' depleted sales team beat me to it, finding homes with our customers for several immense pieces. While the new stock is being sorted check out my latest arrivals page.
Instead I will take the opportunity to rant at the intensely annoying and unsightly looking 'bus shelters' cropping up outside buildings around the country. These are intended to house nicotine obsessed bods who can't go an hour without a fix. Bugger the architecture lets pander to addicts, what next 'smack shelters'!!
Back to Darts if you fancy joining the likes of 'Wibly' Webster, Ted 'The Count' Hankey or Martyn 'The Wolf' Adams but wanted to look cool check out this amazing promotional set including OASIS Dartboard with darts.
Julian Thomas - UK Office Friday 11 January 2008 Get 'em while they're hot, they're luvverly: Whilst those around
me have been squabbling over deck time and arguing about whose turn it is to put
the needle on the record, or more accurately, the laser on the aluminium, I have been methodically
sorting through a huge batch of thousands of CDs I picked up last December. There's many a
bargain to be had, if I do say so myself, and quite an eclectic mix of the old,
the new and the 'yet to make an impression outside of the PR spin quoted by
their own labels or agents!' My latest arrivals page will show you the way, so
have a browse and enjoy the offer of free postage on anything that tickles your
fancy. Happy hunting.
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Friday 11 January 2008 Why, why, why Delilah...:
And with the release on Monday of the first single 'Jigsaw Falling Into Place' from Radiohead's latest opus 'In Rainbows', it's reminded me that i really must get round to playing the album after purchasing the £40.00 box set before Christmas...
Have a good weekend.
Richard Austin - UK Office Friday 11 January 2008 Supercalifragelisticexpialidocious ... Part Two: Especially for Laura (I forgive your spelling mistake)... and anybody else who delights in the world of the strange :- This item of great beauty is waiting for you HERE, Now.
This is one of the best things that I have heard in years & it is but a click or two away from being yours!
Laura Stoneman - UK and Import Releases Friday 11 January 2008 Goldfrapp return.....: On Monday 25th February 2008, Genre-busting pop pioneers Goldfrapp return with their eagerly awaited fourth album.
![]() 'Seventh Tree' follows up the platinum-selling and critically acclaimed 'Supernature' album which came out in summer 2005 and went on to sell over a million copies worldwide. From the captivating electronic balladry of Mercury nominated debut 'Felt Mountain' and its dancefloor-burlesque follow-up, 'Black Cherry', Goldfrapp have consistently surprised and delighted with each new album, adeptly body swerving both stereotypes and imitators alike.
If 'Supernature' was airbrushed in bold strokes of glitterball glamour, 'Seventh Tree' is its sensual counterpoint. Where its predecessor came cocooned in style and sex, 'Seventh Tree' emerges gilded in the butterfly colours of an English surrealism shared from Lear to Lennon. It shimmers and shines with the warmth of a hazy summer, an electric whirlpool of sound over which Alison's glistening voice soars. Alison Goldfrapp says "Seventh Tree is English romanticism with a hint of California sunshine." while Will Gregory describes the album as "Heartache dressed in ten louche outfits". Goldfrapp are widely acknowledged as modern musical treasures - amongst their most creative and imaginative contemporaries they present albums, live shows and imagery in a self-created, ambitious and consistently uncompromising way. Alison Goldfrapp has become a modern-day British icon, providing musical and visual inspiration for countless other artists. Goldfrapp also have a very real beating heart - and it is this rhythm that reverberates throughout the new set of powerful songs on 'Seventh Tree'.
Laura Stoneman - UK and Import Releases Friday 11 January 2008 Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious: Hello there...
This week has been rather a musical one for me.... well stage musical; as I travelled into London on Wednesday night to see the wonderful Mary Poppins show. I had never been to the Prince Edward Theatre before but I loved how close I felt to the stage, such an intimate venue with good views of the stage. I also came away wishing I'd been to stage school and was on the stage with them as they all seemed to be having a fantastic time and the choreography was just awesome. Unfortunately, it's residence in London finishes tomorrow night but if you are near Plymouth, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Manchester or Cardiff, watch out as it's coming to a theatre near you throughout 2008 - 09 and I would thoroughly recommend going to see it! Today, I thought that I would bring to your attention, some of the debut albums to look out for in 2008, including:
ADELE 19
Already the winner of a Brit Award (Adele was voted the 'Critics Choice' - the most exciting new British artist expected to 'make it big' in 2008), '19' is Adele's debut album. Citing her influences as diverse as Etta James, Jill Scott, Bjork, Dusty Springfield, Billy Bragg, Billie Holiday, Jeff Buckley, The Cure and Peggy Lee, Adele also recently completed her first solo UK tour, having toured previously with the likes of Jack Penate, Jamie T, Raul Midon, Amos Lee and Devendra Banhart.
'19' contains both her debut track 'Hometown Glory' and her forthcoming single 'Chasing Pavements'. Blues tinged and melancholic, Adele describes 'Chasing Pavements' as "It's me being hopeful for a relationship that's very much over. The sort of relationship you hate when you're in it, but miss when you're not". A hymn to lost love and regret, 'Chasing Pavements' follows Adele's first limited edition single 'Hometown Glory', which introduced her to the world to much critical acclaim, with NME calling it "totally, absolutely beautiful", Q Magazine calling her "The voice of next year", The Sunday Times saying "A Star Is Born" and Elle commenting "she has a songbook as broken hearted as Leonard Cohen's". * 'This Gift' is a whirlwind of tarnished sixties glamour and post-millennial celebrity culture, cult-films and literary classics. Executed in contrasting honeyed and caustic tones, with the arresting songwriting and fervent performance that is Sons & Daughters.
* This the product of the band's own characteristic intensity and the combative challenge set by the albums famously uncompromising producer Bernard Butler. * The album races from the rasping 'Gilt Complex', through the souring 'Split Lips' (featuring Robbie Stern of Cajun Dance Party on violin), to the Edwyn Collins strut of 'The Nest', hitting driving garage rock on 'Rebel With The Ghost' via 60s girl-group stomps 'Darling' and 'Flags', all along hinting at the band's ability to conjure up atmospheres of disturbing unease, most notably on 'Iodine' and the desert rock meets Gaelic war cry of the title track. You want ideas? Vampire Weekend have ideas. They've also got wit, imagination, an eye for lyrical detail and an ear for musical adventure. Most importantly Vampire Weekend have tunes. Oh yes, they've got tunes.
Dealing in genres the band have dubbed 'Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa' and 'Upper West Side Soweto', 'Vampire Weekend' is a breath of fresh air, both musically and lyrically, with this New York band endeavouring to make music that is anything but straight ahead rock. Straight ahead? As if. This is indie-rock that isn't indie-rock, a joyously exuberant carnival of melody and rhythm. Strings. Organs. Afro-funk guitars. Courtly 18th century harpsichord. A bit of post-punk (maybe Franz Ferdinand crossed with the Bhundu Boys?). Lyrics about grammar and architecture and preferred bus routes and the British Imperial origins of American preppie fashion. With fleet-footed pizzazz Vampire Weekend deploy all these to craft a tinglingly refreshing sound. Anyone for brainy party music? Take 'Oxford Comma', a spartan funk charmer that references a piece of grammar (you can look it up). Then there's the band's debut, limited edition UK single, 'Mansard Roof'. Said roof is an architectural style that offers extra living space in an attic. The lyrics then go on: "the Argentines collapse in defeat, the admiralty surveys the remnants of the fleet". You want world music? That is, music of the world? You want Vampire Weekend. You can throw yourself around the moshpit to Campus. You can imagine what happened to characters in forthcoming single A-Punk before they ended up in the song ("Johanna drove slowly across the city/the Hudson River all filled with snow/she spied the ring on his honour's finger/oh-oh-oh"). You can shed a tear, then shed your clothes, at the hymnal-meets-tribal thunder of 'I Stand Corrected' or the epic M79, which is named after a Manhatten bus route and forms the heart of the album. Simon Wright - UK Chart Product & Imports Thursday 10 January 2008 lavish LITERATURE...: If you've got a spare £100 you could do a lot worse than investing in one of these strictly limited edition books which are individually numbered and signed. some are available now with the remainder arriving over the next few days, so get your request in NOW before it's too late… · THE SMITHS The Smiths & Beyond [signed by photographer Kevin Cummins] · NIRVANA Nirvana [signed by photographers Steve Gullick and Stephen Sweet] · MANIC STREET PREACHERS Forever Delayed [signed by Nicky, James & Sean] · LED ZEPPELIN A Photographic Collection [signed by Neal Preston]
Stephen Borkowski - UK Buyer Thursday 10 January 2008 Led Zeppelin & The Letter X: I have been unhappy with todays chosen letter. The letter X. Now don't get me wrong I own Fossil Fuel - The XTC singles but I don't want to spend an entire workday listening to XTC. Why do so few begin with the letter X? We played Germ Free Adolescence by X-Ray Spex (good) and Mark played something by a band called X (also good) but where do we go from there? And why has every CD we've played today had the same tempo??? I'm hoping tomorrows letter is Q - then look out! On the product front I have been manically sorting as much stock as possible as I have a week off after tomorrow, then I'm off to LA the following week so there will be very little new stock coming from me over the next couple of weeks but there will be a bumber shipment arriving at the end of the month.
Having said that I am pleased to say that we have negotiated a few more of the Led Zeppelin 1975 Earls Court posters from the archive of promoter Mel Bush. The last batch we had flew out and I know from the response that we had that many of you were left disappointed. I warn you that this latest batch are quite possibly the last lot we will get as Mel Bush himself has only a few left himself. If you want more info on this stunning collectors item click the link. When you feel guilty about reaching for the credit card, remind yourself that the last copy that hit the open market sold at auction over a year ago at a price in excess of £900, so you're getting a bargain! And if you STILL can't justify the purchase to yourself, remember if you don't spend it you know your missus will at the January sales!
Richard Austin - UK Office Thursday 10 January 2008 A is for Apple, which we can plainly see ...: The beat goes on here at Esprit Towers.
Our alphabetical music selection regime is working well, if we can only stop Blues Boy Borkowski from queue jumping!
Yesterday we had the treats of 'R' leading to some marvellous long unheard gems from the likes of the Rezillos & The Ruts, R.E.M. & Chris Rea (Thanks Steve). I myself made two big mistakes - first I picked up the wrong Rutles album, then, instead of Zakhir Hussain's 'Rhythm Masters' I mistakenly picked up 'Masters Of Percussion' instead, so Steve was spared his daily dose of virtuoso Tabla and, according to reports, was heard crying in the toilet as a consequence.
It's a fun game & stops the same things being replayed over & over plus introduces us to some new stuff & that can only be a good thing to a buyer. It's certainly cut down the 'Not that AGAIN!' bleating.
There is a kind of 'Russian Roulette' adrenalin rush too as each letter is pulled. We're also all scared because we know the 'Q' is still in there somewhere ...
Still, some good news, today is 'X' - XTC !!!!
Yay !!

Saul Watson - Product Promotion Tuesday 08 January 2008 Plamet Rock News:: The Black Crowes are to play a gig at Brixton Academy on 9 April. The solitary date is a part of the band’s world tour that kicks off on 2 March in New Jersey and will be a particularly special show. The “One Night Only” shows will see the band performing their new album, Warpaint, in its entirety, followed by a set of hits and older material. It will be the first time in several years that the band has appeared in the UK, and the new material is their first since 2001’s Lions.
Ace News For Frehley Fans: Former Kiss guitarist, Ace Frehley is set to play his first solo UK show in years and will release a new album to coincide. The man once known as Space Ace in his more theatrical days, is to play the London Astoria on 11 April. A new solo album is due sometime in the spring, and will be the guitarist’s first full album of new material in nearly 20 years
Slash Proves He's A Guitar Hero: Slash made an appearance at an electronics show on Sunday to perform ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ as part of an odd video game duet. Microsoft head honcho Bill Gates was presenting a piece about the recently released computer game, Guitar Hero III when he surprised the audience by bringing the former G'n'R guitarist onstage to perform ‘Welcome To The Jungle’, which features in the game. The Guitar Hero world champion played the song on screen while Slash, a patron and figurehead for the Guitar Hero series, played alongside him on a real guitar. For the uninitiated, Guitar Hero is a computer game that, via a guitar shaped games controller, puts you in the shoes of the guitarist in a band, and scores you against your accuracy as you "play" through some of rock’s biggest tracks. Currently on its third incarnation, bands that have contributed tracks to the series include Metallica, G'n'R, Sabbath, Skynyrd and Motörhead.
Metallica's Big Seller: Metallica’s “Black Album” is the second biggest album in the US over the past 16 years. The heavy metal classic has shifted a remarkable 15,077,000 copies in the US since 1991. That is an unbelievable 942,312 copies per year (on average) since it was released. It currently sits just behind Shania Twain’s Come On Over which has sold around 400,000 more copies since the official sales charts were started in 1991. Santana currently sits at number six in the chart with his Supernatural album, which has sold a very respectable 11,643,000 in the ten years or so since its release. Clapton Confirms Gigs: Following his recent New Year's gig with chums Pete Townshend, Ringo Starr and Joe Walsh at an annual private gig dedicated to recovering alcoholics, Eric Clapton has also confirmed dates in New York’s Madison Square Garden, performing with Steve Winwood. This will be the first time Clapton and Winwood have performed together for 40 years. We’ll keep you updated for when the Guitar God graces our shores of Blighty again! Trower & Bruce Reunite: Robin Trower & Jack Bruce have reunited for the first time since the early 80s to record a new album. Seven Moons sees the former Procul Harum guitarist and Cream bassist reunite for the first time since 1982’s Truce. The album is released in the US on 8 January with a British date to follow later. You'll be able to catch Trower performing songs from the album on this year's world tour. The legendary guitarist will be heading to the UK in May as part of an extensive solo tour that kicks off in Florida on 16 January.
Matt Lambert - UK Chart Product & Imports Tuesday 08 January 2008 Give a Hoot - Read a Book!: Some great reading material on the way from Omnibus Press! Due for publication on 3rd March are titles from The Ramones and Johnny Cash, while on 7th April we have titles from Amy Winehouse and Bob Dylan. Also, check our book store for more great titles!
Stephen Borkowski - UK Buyer Tuesday 08 January 2008 351 Days til Christmas, Food and the Letter 'L': Christmas is gone, the New Year is here. The slate is wiped clean and we all begin again....Still it's only 351 days to Christmas! I'm trying to tell my body that the Christmas period is over and it is no longer necessary to eat lots of biscuits, crisps, sweets, chocolate and cake (and more chocolate), however I have a cupboard that's still brimming with this crap - what am I supposed to do, throw it out? NO! I will finish eating it all then begin the diet. I've recently resorted to bringing some of it into the office to share among my co-workers - then at least I won't be the only one putting on yet even more weight!
As mentioned by Mark already, yesterday was 'D' day and I forgot to raid my CD collection for something truly dreadful to play to annoy everyone else (a job normally reserved for Richard) so I relied on our own stock and came up with Evolution - The Hits of Dead Or Alive. Words cannot express the sheer horror on Richards face when he realised he'd have to sit through 14 tracks of pure unadulterated 80's trash. (or gems depending on your point of view)
Today is 'L' day, so far we've had League Of Gentlemen, Hymphrey Littleton, Lemonheads and Jonny Lang and it's only 2pm!
Off subject of food, Christmas and our combined dodgy playlists, the year has already provided me a few decent buying opportunities, including this spectacular Madonna/William Orbit Promo compilation which contains exclusive mixes that remain unavailable anywhere else. I've also restocked some decent Madonna & Queen items such as picture discs and coloured vinyls, check my latest arrivals for full details.
In addition to pricing all your lists, looking at your collections as well as pricing and researching stock left over from the end of last year I have been making plans for my next overseas trip. I will be travelling to LA for a week of buying with Peter. We plan to see some long established contacts and a couple of new ones, so if you live in or around LA or San Diego and have a collection of 60's 70's vinyl that you want to sell, drop me an email and I'll try and fit you in.....
Julian Thomas - UK Office Tuesday 08 January 2008 Oh no, not again: Far from presenting
an identity of its own, 2008 already seems to resemble the decade we called 'the
eighties'. So-called fashion is awash with leg-warmers, ballet-pump shoes
and big, frizzy hair. I swear I saw Bananarama at Piccadilly Circus last week!
Unlike the 60s, I was actually there in the 80s. The rose-tinted specs may
delude us all that the 80s was cool, chic, and 'happening' but it really hasn't
stood the test of time at all well. Indeed four of the five Miami Vice DVD box
sets I own all remain sealed, as I fear they must if my perception of a once
cool series is to remain intact. And watching James Spader in Tuff Turf is
cringeingly embarrassing, although he has redeemed himself by virtue of his
performance in Boston Legal. Let's hope this 80s thing is just a blip,
otherwise the natural progression (regression) will mean that grunge is just
around the corner, followed by Brit-Pop all over again, and that won't be fun
for anybody. Happy New Year.
Michael Cambridge - UK Northern Office Monday 07 January 2008 Do You Believe In Big Foot??: If you are a Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia or general art fan check out the amazing pen drawing by Jerry performed in 1992 and is a typical humourous sketch. He has drawn his own version of 'Big Foot' dancing!!
This has also been verified and authenticated by leading Garcia expert Roberta Weir.

Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Monday 07 January 2008 Darn...: Today's letter was 'D' and with a full team the first big test for the alphabet play list. Blimey, wish i'd never started this idea! Amongst the delightful Danielle Dax, late lamented Ian Dury and the criminally ignored Kris Dollimore, we've had Julian trying to sneak some dodgy metal compilation on under the name of Deep Purple and (disco) Steve coming out with his Dead Or Alive collection!
On a slightly different note, welcome Mr Fabio Capello. Now come on, i've always wanted to visit South Africa and no time better then when a World Cup is on.
There you go - 'D' day and i didn't mention The Damned once.
Oh bugger...
Laura Stoneman - UK and Import Releases Monday 07 January 2008 JAMES LAST IN DA HOUSE...: Good Morning / Afternoon / Evening World!!
Hope everyone had a good weekend? I went for an overdue visit to my wonderful hairdresser and got my hair freshened up but I now, according to some, have Orange hair! I would just like to say, it isn't orange, it blonde with copper red flicks, it's just the red needs a few washes to calm down as it is admittingly, a little in-ya-face right now. Oh well, I love it!!
With a hugely successful career stretching back into the fifties, James Last has proved himself to be one of the greatest entertainers in the world of music. The James Last Orchestra is the most successful big band in chart history and they have sold in excess of 50 million albums worldwide. This spectacular new show was filmed at London's Royal Albert Hall on his 2007 tour and captures the James Last Orchestra at the top of their game in front of a wildly enthusiastic sell out crowd who fervently believe in audience participation. Release date 18th January 2008!
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Friday 04 January 2008 The Big 'O'...: As the new year begins and to avoid playing the same ol' CD's here time after time, myself and Richard have devised a new idea of choosing a letter of the alphabet and then, the next day, bringing in music by artists that ONLY begin with that particular letter.
The first randomly chosen letter was 'o' (not Q as we first thought, thank god...) so a quick scour of the CD racks at home have resulted in stuff from Oasis including the excellent Heathen Chemistry album, The Orb's rare Aubrey Mixes CD and er... The Offspring 1994 'Smash' album (where the hell did that come from?).
Looks like Riccardo has bought in the pick of the day with a CD from the under-rated Only Ones.

Laura Stoneman - UK and Import Releases Wednesday 02 January 2008 Queen & Paul Rodgers single instock NOW.: That's right. I am pleased to announce that after a late delivery at EMI and a late delivery to us. The Queen & Paul Rodgers single 'Say It Isn't True' is instock NOW. It has not been that closely a
guarded secret that rock legends Queen and Paul Rodgers have been in the
recording studio for their first sessions together following their successful
world tour of 2005/2006. Indeed, both singer/songwriter and founding member of
Free/Bad Company Paul Rodgers and Brian May have been quoted on their websites
as being "quietly excited" about the music that has been produced from this
creative union.Spurred on by their commitments as
Ambassadors to Nelson Mandela's 46664 HIV AIDS global campaign, on which the
spotlight will fall December 1 with a World Aids Day awareness and fundraising
concert in Johannesburg, South Africa, Brian May, Roger Taylor and Paul Rodgers
are rushing to finish a track specially written for 46664 by Roger Taylor and
have it available as a free download in time for this coming Saturday’s AIDS HIV
benefit concert. The track, Taylor performed an acoustic version
of the song again nightly during the Queen + Paul Rodgers' 2005 tour, each time
dedicating it to Mandela’s work to bring people and politicians together to
fight HIV AIDS. Having played two previous 46664
concerts, but committed in the studio this year, Queen and Paul Rodgers decided
to revisit the song, with all three of them sharing the vocals, and to make the
song the band's message of support to Mandela this
year. "By making the song available for
free", says Queen's last new studio recording
was back in November 1997 when May, Taylor and band's bassist John Deacon
reunited to record 'No-One But You' a song written by Brian May which was shaped
by the early loss of the late Freddie Mercury to AIDS. The song was the last new
work to be released by the band, issued as a single in January
1998.
