![]() Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Monday 31 December 2007 'So this is Christmas...: And what have you doneAnother year over A new one just begun...' Dunno really, still loads of war going on though John.
Never mind, let's go out and get rather drunk.
Just don't end up like this...
Happy New Year one and all.
Peter Fenton - North American Office Saturday 29 December 2007 It's The End Of The Year As We Know It: Hello, Everyone. What kind of year was 2007 for you? It all seems a messy blur to me in so many ways. Best to leave the past in the past, and keep looking forward! Stephen Borkowski - UK Buyer Friday 28 December 2007 Merry Christmas: Seasons greetings to one and all. Over Christmas I’ve had the worst case of full-on MANFLU. I thought I’d miraculously managed to avoid it despite the fact that staff members here at Despite feeling pretty rotten I went home and prepared all the vegetables and cooked the meat ready for the main event of Christmas Day – nope not the I hope the festive period has been enjoyable for you all and I hope Santa has bought you all the things you asked for. If not why not treat yourself to a post Christmas present from my latest arrivals? There’s so much to choose from, take a look……

Laura Stoneman - UK and Import Releases Monday 24 December 2007 A letter of Forthcoming Goodwill from the Man himself......: Hello Santa here... ![]() Laura has given me a list and kindly asked me to tell you about all the wonderful new releases that you can expect to see in the New Year; including: MICHAEL JACKSON featuring WILL.I.AM The Girl Is Mine 'Thriller' is the biggest selling studio album of time, and with this lead single from the new 'Thriller 25' album it has been given a fresh new sound. 'The Girl Is Mine 2008' is the lead single and the first new music from Michael Jackson in 7 years. Michael has chosen to work with will.i.am, the driving force behind the Black Eyed Peas, who takes over the duetting duties, instead of Paul McCartney! This is a chance to introduce and update the track for a new audience, and it will serve to remind those who are familiar with it of the song's timeless qualities. Cat Power returns with 'Jukebox', her second album of cover songs and a tribute to the great vocalists who have influenced her over the years. Recorded in Dallas, Memphis and Miami with Stu Sikes [who also worked on Loretta Lynn's Grammy-winning 'Van Lear Rose'], 'Jukebox' contains twelve tracks, eleven of which are covers and one, 'Song To Bobby', is brand new and a suitable inclusion as she wrote it about meeting Bob Dylan for the first time (it also precedes her version of 'I Believe In You' on this record). This is the first record she has made with her band Dirty Delta Blues – the quartet of Dirty Three's Jim White, Delta 72's Gregg Foreman, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's Judah Bauer and Lizard Music's Erik Paparozzi – and they make up a big part of this album. Also making guest appearances on the record are Spooner Oldham [Neil Young, Janis Joplin], Larry McDonald [Toots & The Maytails, Taj Mahal], Teenie Hodges [Al Green, Memphis Rhythm Band] and Matt Sweeney [Chavez]. Time Out once wrote that Cat Power was "a master of interpretation" and 'Jukebox' highlights just that. Although her second album of covers, it's not really the sequel to 'The Covers Record' [2000], instead a fascinating new chapter in Chan Marshall's artistic arc. Coming as an added bonus are five more cover versions, which are being made available as an accompaniment to both the deluxe CD and vinyl versions of the album. * Domino Recordings are extremely proud to present the debut album from Lightspeed Champion entitled 'Falling Off The Lavender Bridge'. * 2007 saw the release of two singles for Lightspeed Champion; the beautifully catchy 'Galaxy Of The Lost', and the epic ten minute tale 'Midnight Surprise'. 'Falling Off The Lavender Bridge' was recorded in Omaha, Nebraska with producer Mike Mogis [Saddle Creek] and features special guest appearances from the likes of Emmy The Great, members of Cursive, The Faint and Tilly And The Wall. * Dev Hynes [Lightspeed Champion] has been picking up interest across the board, with his quirky and unique character complementing his beautiful music, and creating an artist that kids love and critics respect and adore. Blues tinged and melancholic, Adele describes 'Chasing Pavements' as "It's me being hopeful for a relationship that's very much over. The sort of relationship you hate when you’re in it, but miss when you're not". A hymn to lost love and regret, 'Chasing Pavements' follows Adele's first limited edition single 'Hometown Glory', which introduced Adele to the world to much critical acclaim, with NME calling it "totally, absolutely beautiful", Q Magazine calling her "the voice of next year", The Sunday Times saying "a star is born" and Elle commenting "she has a songbook as broken hearted as Leonard Cohen's". Citing her influences as diverse as Etta James, Jill Scott, Bjork, Dusty Springfield, Billy Bragg, Billie Holiday, Jeff Buckley, The Cure and Peggy Lee, Adele also recently completed her first solo UK tour, having toured previously with the likes of Jack Penate, Jamie T, Raul Midon, Amos Lee and Devendra Banhart. She will be playing a selection of dates between now and January. The single will include Adele's version of the Sam Cooke track 'That's It, I Quit, I'm Movin' On'. Both 'Chasing Pavements' and 'Hometown Glory' are featured on her forthcoming debut album '19'. ‘Valentine’ will be available on CD and 7". The 7” is backed by Richard's version of 'Lonesome Town' by Ricky Nelson while the CD features a new Hawley Instrumental 'Sheffield on Sea', an acoustic version of 'Roll River Roll' and the video for 'Valentine' directed by Shane Meadows. Richard on Valentine:"The chorus is one of the oldest pieces of music I've ever written. I could never get anything else to go with it. But I picked up the guitar in the studio and started singing the chorus and then I made up the verse on the spot. I don't like being over prepared, I like to keep that Sun Studio vibe where the red light comes on and it's like "c'mon son, what have you got?" It's quite tragic that song, it's like a kind of Yorkshire Shakespearian tragedy. It's about somebody who's made themselves really hard after heartbreak. I've been through that. I was there once in my early twenties before I met our lass, you make yourself into something you're not. The song is about a tender moment where you face the truth." The Kittens are back with 'Anyone Who Had A Heart'. The single is taken from 'Liverpool - The Number Ones Album', part of 'The Number One' Project which celebrates Liverpool's musical heritage having had a world beating 56 Number One singles and to mark Liverpool's status as 2008 European Capital Of Culture. Originally a number hit for Cilla Black in February 1964 the Kittens have updated the track with their unique pop sheen, glorious vocals and fantastic harmonies. Pop phenomenon in their own right with 3 chart topping singles and 13 top 10 hits under their belts, the track is sure to be a hit with their huge fanbase and supporters on The Number One Project. Preceding the single and album release is a major event to launch the project hosted at the recently opened Liverpool Echo Arena. The concert features a live performance by The Kittens and many of the artists who have recorded tracks for the project. The singles proceeds are all going to 6 key Liverpool Charities which are being supported by The Number Ones Project. The b-side to the track is a brilliant cover of The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night by recent Positive signing Sonny J. The genesis of The Mars Volta's new album 'The Bedlam in Goliath' is one of the weirdest stories in the history of modern music, a tale of long-buried murder victims and their otherworldly influence, of strife and near collapse, of the long hard fight to push "the record that did not want to be born" out into the world. The short version of the story is this - Omar [Rodriguez-Lopez, Guitars] bought Cedric [Bixler-Zavala, Vocals] a Ouija board from a curious stall in Jerusalem. The board, it turns out, was cursed by the spirit Goliath, the ghosts of a terrible murder. The band started experiencing terrible misfortune, long time collaborators had to leave the fold, band members left and the album nearly went unrecorded. So the board was buried. And the record made, inspired by the Soothsayer (the Ouija board).
plus Madness, Tom Baxter, Amy Grant, Easy-E, NWA, Keith Urban, British Sea Power, Stackridge, Spear of Destiny, Bay City Rollers, Sons & Daughters, Underworld, Client, Fischerspooner, Jody Watley, Nancy Sinatra, Stryper, 3 UFO reissues, Black Mountain, Cass McCombs, Never Ever Land compilation, 2 Smokie reissues, Geordie, Zero Le Creche, Adorable, 2 Claire Hamill, Yes, Moody Blues, Cream, Hot Chip, 30 Seconds To Mars, Atomic Kitten (yes ATOMIC KITTEN), Hayseed Dixie (with an album of original material), Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Peter Green, Wishbone Ash, Fairport Convention and 4 Killing Joke reissues... CLICK HERE to see our complete forthcoming release list.... I would just like to wish all you Boys & Girls a wonderful Christmas. HO HO HO MERRRRRRRRRRRY CHRISTMAS!! x
Peter Fenton - North American Office Saturday 22 December 2007 'Tis The Season: Happy Holidays, Everyone. I'm working as hard as Santa this week, trying to get everything caught up and squared away in order to present you with the best possible items from which to choose. But unlike Santa, it's not important whether you are naughty or nice, just so long as you know what you want, and you jump on that desire! This week, I'd like to spotlight an item we are offering for the first time ever. In 1964, Charlie Watts wrote a tribute to the inimitable Charlie Parker entitled ODE TO A HIGH FLYING BIRD, which we are proud to offer for sale today -- ONLY ONE COPY AVAILABLE! Twenty-Seven years later, the book was reprinted for Charlie's reissue box set, FROM ONE CHARLIE TO ANOTHER. I'd like to be able to offer out dozens of both editions, but there's always a little Scrooge mixed in with Santa, it seems.
It's no coincidence that along with these loving tributes to Charlie "Yardbird" Parker, I shall now point you toward this original 1965 stereo pressing of FOR YOUR LOVE, the legendary album from The Yardbirds, still in its original shrink! Amazing items arrive daily around here, so please remember to check back! As 2007 reaches its final week, here's hoping for a fantastic New Year to all of you. Although rare records and CD's are way cool, the true rarity is finding your own peace, and spreading it 'round.
Take Care, Everyone!
Richard Austin - UK Office Thursday 20 December 2007 Elvis Drafted !!: Sgt. Elvis was discharged on March 2, 1960 & continues to have hits, even from beyond the grave, right up to the present day.
Simon Wright - UK Chart Product & Imports Wednesday 19 December 2007 new year NEW CAREER...: Do you have what it takes to work as part of our buying and stock addition team? If you have the experience of working in this part of the music industry we're looking for you! We need a confident communicator with a creative flair & the ability to work under pressure. For more details on this exciting vacancy CLICK HERE
Stephen Borkowski - UK Buyer Wednesday 19 December 2007 I'm Back!: Rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated, despite my lack of entries here over the last week! Let me give you a rundown as to why there has been little input from me on this forum recently… Monday Traditionally one of the busiest days of the week – lots of emails to attend to from over the weekend plus regular meeting with the Sales Team in the morning. Lunchtime a regular supplier arrived at the office with a few more of the Beatles ‘Stop Worrying Help Is On The Way’ press kits. If you want one I suggest grabbing them quick as there are just a couple left now! The afternoon passed in a blur – I was off to see the mighty Zeppelin at O2 that night and couldn’t wait. I’m not going to bore you with how magnificent the concert was because either you’re not interested in the reunion at all or if you are interested then you’ve no doubt read countless reviews for yourself by now. Needless to say I agree with the reviews I read. For a concert that supposedly couldn’t possibly live up to all the hype, it did just that – I will remember it forever! Tuesday A day of rest. Not in the office at all and enjoyed some R&R at home (watching Prison Break) and braving the town to do the last of my Christmas shopping. In the evening I attended the Planet Rock Xmas Party where The Answer put on a stonking performance. To me they remind me of early Zeppelin crossed with The Black Crowes. They were brilliant, but the highlight was having Paul Rodgers join them onstage for 2 numbers. Wednesday A day of catching up after my day off. Stock needs sorting, pricing and researching, emails need answering…. The blog became low priority – sorry! Thursday What a day! I hit the road at 3:00am for the 6 hour long drive to With all the travelling and time at various appointments it was 11pm by the time I’d finished and I began the long drive home, finally arriving back at 2:45am – my bed never looked so welcoming!!! Friday Morning – Sleeping! Friday Afternoon – Sorting sorting sorting, all the goodies I bought – still lots to do…. More tomorrow
Richard Austin - UK Office Wednesday 19 December 2007 Yo Ho Ho !: Well, Saturday was fun. With Julian sporting the latest in designer Pith helmets, the intrepid explorer cut & hacked his way through the dense undergrowth (sounds like my garden!) & discovered a lost city of long forgotten CD gems. You can check just out what he found HERE.
During the day we got to listen to some of these including a really impressive CD by Kirsty Hawkshaw & PROMO copies of Remember You're A Womble!
The voyage of discovery continues ....
Hope that you've all sorted out your Christmas purchases. If not there's still time, if you're quick.
Having avoided the dreaded lurgy so far, it's a little un-nerving to be sat so close to Typhoid Mary, who is taking the Christmas idea of giving a bit too far. Honestly, we'd have preferred choccys !
Be safe & be good, one and all. If you've been bad this year, you may get a surprise from Santa that you weren't expecting ...
Michael Cambridge - UK Northern Office Wednesday 19 December 2007 Fuming!!!: I see from the news that those bloody EU cronies are now trying to infringe our freedom to drive whatever vehicle we want on the grounds of carbon emmisions. So now if you dare drive a guzzler you are viewed as some kind of polution terrorist. We just have to ignore that 2 of the largest countries in the world destroy the environment at a rate that is frankly shocking, and as the powers that be won't tackle that, they hit the motorist. It's not anything to do with moves to increase tax of course!! Question is what's worse Global warming or driving a piece of crap Focus - Hey grab the sunscreen!!
A more musical entry tommorow....
Mr Angry..
Julian Thomas - UK Office Tuesday 18 December 2007 No fun Radio 1: So BBC Radio 1, in its infinite wisdom, has decided to bleep the words 'faggot' and 'slut' from The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl's Christmas classic 'Fairytale Of New York'. And in so doing have merely drawn more attention to, and focussed the spotlight upon, their own pathetic PC behaviour. What overpaid numpty made that decision? Whoever it was, you are a total cock. May you drown in your own Christmas cheer!
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Tuesday 18 December 2007 Urrrrrrrrgggghhhh...: Severe man-flu has kicked in, which i'm bravely battling against and hopefully infecting everyone else in the office just in time for Christmas...
On a completely unrelated subject (unless you compare Queen to a contagious disease) there is a superb rarity that has just come into stock, namely the legendary blue vinyl Bohemian Rhapsody 7" and not only that, it's number 200 out of the 200 copies pressed!!!
Michael Cambridge - UK Northern Office Monday 17 December 2007 Seasons Greetings: With the festive season rapidly approaching and the deadline for present shopping looms, now is one of your last chances to bag a fabulous rarity for someone special [and hey that includes yourself] Check out a few choices below

Peter Fenton - North American Office Saturday 15 December 2007 CAFFEINE madonna CAFFEINE mariah CAFFEINE garth: ![]() Hi Everyone. This is officially the busiest week of the entire year for me in terms of buying amazing collectables, and getting them sorted in enough time to buy MORE collectables. The amount of cool stuff, much of which we've not seen in YEARS, will be hitting our site between now and the end of 2007, provided I don't collapse first from excessive caffeine consumption. I broke my own personal record for hours and days without any sleep while working around-the-clock, and now I'm crazed and unstable -- OK, some would say that's business as usual, and to those people I would say: BACK OFF! MARIAH CAREY is working hard, as well, putting the finishing touches on her new album. It all started 17 years ago with her smash eponymous debut, and here's an OFFICIAL, QUINTUPLE-PLATINUM RIAA-CERTIFIED MARIAH CAREY SALES AWARD that celebrates the large beginnings of an enduring talent. The only other American artist to have matched Mariah sale-for-sale in the '90s is GARTH BROOKS, and I shall call your attention to this equally impressive TWENTY-TIMES PLATINUM GARTH BROOKS OFFICIAL SALES AWARD, which has the added appeal of being boldly AUTOGRAPHED AND DEDICATED BY GARTH, himself! Hooray -- MADONNA will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in April, coincidentally just in time for HARD CANDY, her new album's release! There may be people who will grumble at her worthiness for induction, but you simply cannot deny her artistry and fortitude, and that's plenty good enough for my uncounted vote. We have but ONE copy in stock of Madge's rarest official US 12" vinyl single: MADONNA'S BEDTIME STORY -- CHATER II. After 12 years, its value continues to skyrocket as its emergence on the collectors market becomes more and more elusive. It may be freezing cold this time of year, but there's always comfort in an ice-cold frappacino, so please excuse me while I get mine with a triple-shot. Have a fantastic week, everyone!
Julian Thomas - UK Office Friday 14 December 2007 Cold storage indeed: Never has a phrase
been more appropriate. Tomorrow, Richard and I will be donning fingerless
gloves, woolly hats, scarves & coats to delve into the wondrous depths of
just some of the numerous boxes of stock we squirreled away years ago. A quick,
mental count-up suggests about 12,000 CDs to begin with, then once they're
sorted we'll be able to access the additional 18,000 CDs piled up behind them.
Who knows what we'll find amongst the albums, singles, promos & CD-Rs? The
last trawl unearthed some interesting titles including; ex-Blow Monkey, Dr.
Robert singles & albums, a stack of Katie Melua's timeless Crazy CD singles,
plus an album & single by a little known band called Adom, produced by &
featuring Richard Barbieri. The thrill of discovery remains undiluted, and if
all else fails we'll have lots of spare cases to use!
PS - Mark, you
forgot to mention Coldplay, and the disco classic A.E.I.O.U. by Freez!
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Friday 14 December 2007 Brrrrrr.....: So the theory that is 'global warming' is taking a bit of a hammering this week. Even the ferret felt the effects with his water bowl freezing up overnight.
Stay in the warm and browse artists like Ice T, Icicle Works and Icehouse. There's even some Snow Patrol for you to gaze over.
Keep warm and remember, don't eat the yellow snow...
Richard Austin - UK Office Friday 14 December 2007 YES !!!: I've already got my copy & had to have it shipped half way across the world at great expense. In fact, it ended up costing me about a tenner more than you will have to pay if you get it HERE.
I bought it because it really IS as good as you hope it will be. I think anyone who has listened to Tal's playing will realise that you are hearing something very special indeed. This young lady has a very great future ahead of her & she's already frightened some of the existing 'greats'. Comparisons to a young Jaco are easy to make - she manages to play with so much empathy to what's going on around her that it's quite something to see & hear. If you were lucky enough to see her & Vinnie Colaiuta playing with Jeff Beck, it was a revelation to watch them trading off complex accents & grinning at each other as they did it. It was one of the best & most together rhythm sections I have ever seen and they were having FUN !!! I thought this CD was good enough to hunt down a copy immediately, Australian only or not, but now you can get one from us for considerably cheaper - how good is that ? I'd like to especially thank the long suffering Mr Simon Wright for not only arranging for us to list this amazing debut CD, but also for resisting the temptation to deliver extreme whacks as I badgered him about it non-stop for the last fortnight :-)
Michael Cambridge - UK Northern Office Wednesday 12 December 2007 Led Zep Reform - Yawn!!!: With the whole world going on and on and about the OAP Led Zep collective and a strand of John Lennons hair selling for £24,000, you'd be forgiven for thinking the whole world's gone mad. But then again we live in a country that no longer makes or develops anything, or has any industrial talent left. We simply rely on marketeers to convince us we are in the creative hub of the world. Well me I'm off to sit in a darkened room and listen to Joy Division!! and finish reading Fantasy Island whilst counting down the 70 days till Anton Corbjins Joy Division biopic Control comes out on DVD. The thought of sitting in a cinema with other people watching the soundtrack to one of the most important bands ever seemed very wrong. That and morons with mobile phones in cinemas and bloody nachos snacks - very very wrong!!
Richard Austin - UK Office Wednesday 12 December 2007 Now's the time !: Apologies for the extremely boring 'here is the product - here is the description' type entry this time, but I know a lot of you are waiting for these :-
The amazing books by Yuri Grishin for Island Records & Harvest/EMI Records are both
IN STOCK NOW !!! Get yours now in time for Christmas HERE !!
Julian Thomas - UK Office Tuesday 11 December 2007 McCartney uncut: In one of the few
quiet moments this week, when sales of our Led Zeppelin collectables weren't
occupying one and all, I managed to find this little gem from another
ever-so-slightly famous & successful artist, namely Sir Paul McCartney.
Earlier this year he released 'Dance Tonight' from his 'Memory Almost Full'
album and, here in the UK, it was available as a very limited edition shaped
picture disc. Except this is one of the incredibly rare *UNCUT* versions;
essentially it's a test pressing, used to check sound quality and image
alignment prior to the final run of cut-to-shape discs being manufactured. Back
in the 1980s, when shaped picture discs were all the rage, getting an uncut was
the holy grail for many of us. In fact I am still looking for an uncut copy of
FGTH's apple shaped picture disc for Pleasuredome (so if you know of one that
might be for sale please do let me know) but I was hugely surprised, not to
mention pleased, to find that the occasional uncut disc can still make its way
into the hands of us collectors now we're some 20+ years further down the line.
I do recall that some of the uncuts back in the 80s seemed to be more common
than the shapes, but that is definitely not the case today. So this is indeed a
great chance to obtain a modern rarity from one of the most collectable artists
of all time - just, whatever you do, don't make a clock out of
it!
Michael Cambridge - UK Northern Office Monday 10 December 2007 Incredible Queen Item Just added: Hi everyone A quick blog post as I prepare for a heavy days buying tommorow [complete with man-flu] but I thought I would just make you aware of an Amazing Queen item added today.
This is a fantabulous FULLY Autographed unique framed display piece with a 10" x 8" photograph of the band with several female fans plus a FULLY AUTOGRAPHED sheet of paper. This was signed for one of the girls featured in the photograph. Uniquely Roger has written 'Queen' in his 'Bubble Writing' [which he did up until 1976]. In addition he has written a loveheart within the 'Q' which from our research is the first example that has reached the market.

Peter Fenton - North American Office Saturday 08 December 2007 Sleigh Bells Ring, Are You Listening?: Hi Everyone. Tomorrow, I shall hit the road again for yet another trek across America. According to forecasts, I'm in for some temperatures colder than I've experienced in years; but with the promise of extreme collectables ahead, things are still heating up! I've come across a few stellar rarities in recent weeks that I wish to spotlight today. It's not often these days I see a rare Tori Amos item for the first time ever, but I stumbled across this American Doll Posse Radio Sampler, and spirited it away without hesitation. I've restocked one of the most elusive David Gilmour rarities so far this century, the Live Selections from On An Island CD. Once it leaves our grasp this time, it may well be goodbye forever, so be warned! Please also note this recent and rare CD addition to our David Gilmour offerings: 5 Live Tracks From Remember That Night. It's handsome, and these tracks are otherwise available only on DVD! I've only seen it ONCE before -- please call your attention to this American vinyl-only advance set of Michael Jackson Number Ones. I'm pretty sure that you'll be "ONE" in an elite class of Jacko Collectors should you choose to include it among your prized collectables. I hope you all have a great week. Take Care, Everyone!

Julian Thomas - UK Office Friday 07 December 2007 The state of things: Partially inspired
by performances on last week's Later with Jools we have today been listening to
The State Of Things by Reverend And The Makers. They probably wouldn't thank me
for the comparison but, to me, they sound just like Duran Duran should have
sounded with their latest album. Sadly, the DD/Timberlake effect is tired old
sh*te applied to a tired old bunch of poseurs who should have quit years ago.
Duran were one of my favourite bands, indeed I've seen them live four & a
half times but they were, without exception, rubbish every time. The 'half' was
when they toured their God awful Thank You album & I left half way through.
Why oh why oh why oh why...? On a completely different tack we've also been
playing 'The Enchantment' by piano legend Chick Corea and the banjo marvel Bela
Fleck - if you saw his performance on Jools last week you can't help but be
amazed at this man's talent. If your idea of banjos conjures images of
Deliverance and 'I bet you can squeal like a pig', think again. This man has
true talent with not a duel in sight. Finally, Robert Wyatt's latest album,
Comicopera, is a grower and his saxophonist Gilad Atzmon has found a new fan in
my colleague Richard, who swore blind it was Van Der Graaf Generator's David
Jackson!
Richard Austin - UK Office Thursday 06 December 2007 Prohibition repealed!: Well, at least it was in 1933 in the US.
One of the strangest things about my first visit to Ronnie Scotts since the UK smoking ban was enforced was sitting in one of the world's classic small smoky Jazz clubs and it not being smoky.
It was kind of like going to a Grand Prix where they'd fixed silencers to the cars.
Some things are just meant to be & for Jazz clubs & classic English pubs (remember them ?) it was part of the ambience that made them what they were.
It would have been nice if pubs & venues had been given the choice to opt in or opt out of the no smoking rule or have a room to give people a choice (apparently they call that democracy) but blanket prohibition was enforced regardless.
Smokers & non-smokers alike have said to me that they feel something has been lost. I have to agree.
It does seem strange when such decisions are made by people who drive cars that emit more pollutants in a day than a smoker does in a year!
Still, no argument that it's bad for you (like death bad) & it's not a good thing. No argument that it's a foolish thing to start - so don't.
I just miss it in such places in the same way that I miss choking fumes from steam trains - a part of the past has been lost. It would just have been nice if, like the rest of the past, it had been allowed to fade away gracefully rather than by decree.
Stephen Borkowski - UK Buyer Thursday 06 December 2007 Stop Worrying Help Is On The Way!: It's fast and furious here as the silly season has kicked in. I've not really had time to keep everyone updated with all the great stock I've been picking up but here are a few of my favourites from the last week or so.
The Beatles - Stop Worrying - Help Box Set. A superb promo only box set issued at the launch of the DVD to people in attendance. Only 250 of these were made and we've managed to secure a handful. They contain 8 large replica lobby cards printed on high quality card plus 3 press sheets in a fantastic custom box.
A customised beige hessian eco-bag with 'K' motif and Kylie face design plus 10 red heart shaped balloons with 2 Hearts text and release date - Great for this time of year!
Led Zeppelin - Lacie Hard Drive preloaded with EVERY Zepp album. This item is truly sub-zero it's so cool. Only 100 of these were manufactured to promote the recent Mothership release, many have been given to large publications to run competitions with but if like me you never seem to win anything (Zeppelin tickets excluded) then you don't have to chance your luck - you can buy one! Don't delay though, like the tickets the demand is bound to be high for this.
The Beatles/Peter Blake - Sgt Pepper Autographed Sleeve.
It was 20 years ago today.... Well it was when this was signed. To mark the 20th anniversary of the release of Sgt Pepper and the release of the album on CD, an exhibition was held in London. This album was purchased on the day and Peter Blake signed and dated it - how cool is that!?
Still lots to come before Xmas including MORE Zeppelin - this time in the form of an original 1975 Earls Court poster - watch this space for more details......
Michael Cambridge - UK Northern Office Wednesday 05 December 2007 Queen Madonna Is Coming Back!!: Retirement - No chance!!
With news that the New Madonna album [her 11th studio album] will be called Give It To Me and due for release next April, featuring the possible talents of Pharrell and Timbaland. Now could just be the time to check back through our extensive Madonna catalogue. I have just added a new selection of rarites from the past twenty years, so take a trawl through and pick out a Xmas pressie or maybe two. Julian Thomas - UK Office Tuesday 04 December 2007 Sgt Pepper acetates: My first real
introduction to The Beatles wasn't actually The Beatles at all. My dad took me
to the local cinema to see the 1978 film version of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts
Club Band featuring Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees. Being almost 30 years ago I
don't remember too much about the film itself but I do remember loving the music
and asking if we could buy the soundtrack LP. To my delight, the following
Saturday, we popped into our local independent record shop to pick up a copy.
However, dad insisted that we buy not the original soundtrack, but the original
Beatles LP. I still have that copy to this day, much played, and with what
remains of the quickly cut out cut-outs! Fast forward those 30 years to last
week, and whilst looking through a collection of vinyl rarities I stumbled
across a mint copy of the soundtrack double LP, complete with sleeve stickers,
poster and still factory sealed from new. In addition, there was also a stunning
set of four 1-sided LP acetates for the soundtrack from Kendun Recorders Burbank
Studio, complete with studio labels and hand annotated library sleeves
with George Martin production credit. From pre-production to finished article
we are offering this superb set of rarities together, and they are absolutely
Mint.
Laura Stoneman - UK and Import Releases Tuesday 04 December 2007 3 Weeks Til Xmas......: Good Morning. I seem to always be apologizing for my lack of blogs but this time I can't blame it on being busy. Nope, this time it is down to 2 weeks of illness. So there I was on Sunday 18th still on a MASSIVE GIG HIGH after seeing Arcade Fire on their 1st sold-out night at London's Alexandra Palace the night before (although nearly getting crushed by the thousands queueing for the bus shuttle back to Wood Green Tube Station wasn't much fun). I have to say, I don't think I've danced so much at a gig before, they were absolutely phenomenal and I thoroughly recommend seeing them if you get the chance. But then at 4:30am Monday morning, out of nowhere I was suddenly struck down with a lovely & thoughtful sickness bug which left me feeling & looking rather ill the whole week [with quotes from colleagues & friends including "jeez, you look rough" and "you look & sound awful"]; and then just as I thought I'd shrugged it off, the equally friendly Flu virus decided that it too wanted to attack me. Just what I needed, I'm sure you can imagine. On my arrival back at work last Wednesday, I was told "this is the most human you've looked in 2 weeks" which was somewhat nice to hear. Anyhow, back to business. A lot of forthcoming details were added in my absence but yesterday I received details of the new album from RINGO STARR which will be released on 14th January 2008 RINGO STARR Liverpool 8 'Liverpool 8' is the brand new album from legendary artist Ringo Starr – his first new album with Capitol/EMI since 'Goodnight Vienna' in 1974. The single 'Liverpool 8' will be released on January 7, just ahead of the massive celebrations planned to launch the Liverpool City Of Culture profile, (usefully called 'Liverpool 08') at which Ringo will be the 'star' attraction. 'Liverpool 8' features 12 new tracks, written and produced by Ringo Starr and Dave Stewart, and "refers to the section of Liverpool where I used to live," explains Ringo. "The song was actually Dave Stewart's idea, as a mini autobiographical travelogue: 'I was a sailor first…' and then, 'Liverpool I left you' – because I did. 'but I never let you down,' which is true." The new Ringo Starr 'Best Of' released in August, was proof if any were needed, that this much loved character is respected as an artist in his own right. Ringo will be the guest of honour at the Liverpool 08 launch on January 12 and will be in London to promote the album. CLICK HERE to see our complete forthcoming release list.... Be well, Laura x
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer Monday 03 December 2007 Anniversary: My 10 years of working here at EIL has been formally reached (cue own joke about 'you get less for manslaughter...' and there's been many names & faces that have come and gone in that period, some of which i can't recall even when prompted. The 'music biz' has changed dramatically over this period (although i've still never 'downloaded' a track in my life) but you can be sure we'll still be here searching out and providing you, dear customers, with the very best in rare & collectable music.
Ten years after starting here, that's never changed...

Tal Wilkenfeld was a revelation. Only been playing bass for four years ?

I just didn't want to go home.
Peter Fenton - North American Office Saturday 01 December 2007 December Will Be Magic: Happy December, Everyone. I've visited seven American states in the last seven days, trying to buy as many quality records and compact discs as possible without losing patience in crazy -- and occasionally snowbound -- holiday traffic. Yes, every airplane on which I travelled was a Screaming Baby Express, and every turnpike, parkway, and highway down which I drove was a Road Rage Extravaganza. But with the promise of hot Pasticcio at roadside Greek Diners to keep me fueled, I endured.. and thrived! The buzz word among collectors these days seems to be SEALED. Everyone seems to want first-edition vinyl releases in their ORIGINAL shrink-wrap, as sold in American record stores for decades. Among the top specimens I submit for your approval this week include two sealed gems from the 1970's. First, check out this legendary LP produced by John Lennon & Yoko Ono on the Apple Label: David Peel & Lower East Side's "The Pope Smokes Dope". If your collection is missing this item, but you'd rather play it than just covet it, we can also provide you with a fantastic copy OPENED, but still in its original shrink. If you caught Van Halen on tour in 2007 with original lead singer David Lee Roth, you were thoroughly entertained, reportedly. Think back THIRTY YEARS ago, when Van Halen was getting its start... they released a promotional-only sampler record on RED VINYL to call attention to their "new" single Runnin' With The Devil. But because the record featured unauthorized and copyrighted "Loony Tunes/Elmer Fudd" graphics and logos, it was quickly withdrawn. I tell you this to spotlight this amazing Van Halen Looney Tunes Single, which remains FACTORY SEALED from new. Now isn't THAT a Merrie Melody? Have a great week, everyone.
