Kerrang is the UKs premier metal magazine. It has more readers than most daily newspapers and it has forced the UK to rock like never before.

Kerrang held it's annual awards ceremony in London on 27th August, 2002. Here at EIL.COM we like a bit of a head-bang and so here is our celebration of the winners and losers on the night.

BEST BAND IN THE WORLD

The US funky-punksters Red Hot Chili Peppers were voted as the The Best Band In The World at the awards. With a career into it's third decade they are among the elder statesmen of rock. But with a recent number album, By The Way and a loyal fanbase of young and old they easily beat off the challenge of Slipknot, Linkin Park, Nickelback and Sum 41.

The Brits were out in force at the Kerrang Awards. Not just among the nominees and liggers but they were prize winners too !!

The voting must have been tight for this section. Trying to seperate Hundred Reasons, Muse, Idlewild, LostProphets and A was the task for the readers of Kerrang.

Votes counted and any fixing checked for ... the winners were A. This too was a surprise as the band have had a topsy turvy career, but recent album Hi-Fi Serious spawned Top 20 hit singles.

One of the surprises on the night was that a 'nice' song won the Best Single award !

The US band Puddle Of Mudd scooped the prize with their anthemic Blurry . As proteges of Limp Bizkit they did have a head start on most but they have created their own waves since then.

The royally lauded Foo Fighters were the entrants into the Hall Of Fame .

A new album is due in October and that will be the band's fourth in less than seven years
