Over 7,000 young people have been given a free education and opportunity to enter the school since it’s opening in 1991 and over 10,000 children and adults have been helped by the phenomenal music therapy work carried out by Nordoff Robbins.

British Male Solo Artist... Robbie Williams

For the third year in a row it was Robbie who picked up this award. He wasn't able to attend then used his acceptance speech video to ask for a date!!

nominees... Craig David |  David Gray |  The Streets |  Badly Drawn Boy
Click here to view our ROBBIE WILLIAMS catalogue

British Female Solo Artist... Ms. Dynamite

It was another awards ceremony that the lovely Ms. D simply owned as her own. On accepting the award Ms. Dynamite offered up her support and love to fellow nominee Beverly Knight...

nominees... Sophie Ellis Bextor | Beverley Knight | Alison Moyet | Beth Orton

British Album... COLDPLAY 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head'

Chris Martin looked truly gob smacked when they were announced as the winners. It means that Coldplay have moved into the hallowed realms of Oasis, winning the Best Band and Best Album categories twice.

nominees... MS. DYNAMITE 'A Little Deeper' | THE CORAL 'The Coral'  |
THE STREETS 'Original Pirate Material' | SUGABABES 'Angels With Dirty Faces'
Click here to view our COLDPLAY catalogue

    British Group... Coldplay

They stunned the rousy rabble with a typically neck-hair raising performance of 'Clocks' and to be fair courted the only controversy by making their anti-Bush and Fair Trade sentiments heard.

    nominees... Blue |  Doves |  Sugababes |  Oasis |
Click here to view our COLDPLAY catalogue

British Single... LIBERTY X 'Just A Little'

Viewers of CD:UK decided that it was more Who'Say? and Flopstars no longer. Liberty X deservedly looked over the moon with this award, it puts their past behind them.

nominees... ATOMIC KITTEN 'The Tide Is High' | GARETH GATES 'Unchained Melody'  | | GARETH GATES 'Any One Of Us - Stupid Mistakes'   | WILL YOUNG 'Anything Is Possible'
    Buy LIBERTY X 'Just A Little' @ EIL.COM

    British Urban Act... Ms.Dynamite

This was the first year this particular category was implemented and the strength of the nominees shows just how musch talent the UK has in urban music. There could be only one winner though and it had to be Ms. Dynamite.

nominees... Beverley Knight | Big Brovaz |  Craig David |  Daniel Bedingfield  | Mis-Teeq  | Romeo |  Roots Manuva |  So Solid Crew | The Streets
Click here to view our MS. DYNAMITE catalogue

    British Dance Act... Sugababes

It has been quite a year for the 'Babes. Twelve months no-one would have even nominated them in this category but with 'Freak Like Me', which they performed live, they have created themselves a true air of dance cred.

nominees... Chemical Brothers |  Groove Armada |  Jamiroquai |  Kosheen |
Click here to view our SUGABABES catalogue

    British Breakthrough Artist... Will Young

Listeners to BBC Radio 1 decided that Will has what it takes and voted him the Breakthrough Artist. Last year's winners in this category were back as winners again so when Will said he would see us next year it is more than likely.

    nominees... Liberty X |  Ms.Dynamite |  The Coral |  The Streets
Click here to view our WILL YOUNG catalogue

    Pop Act... Blue

Last year the Blue boys were crowned the Breakthrough act and since then they haven't stopped. Number One singles and albums meant that viewers of CD:UK chose Blue as their favourite colour.

nominees... Enrique Iglesias |  Gareth Gates |  Pink |  Will Young |
Click here to view our BLUE catalogue

    International Male Solo Artist... Eminem

Quite likely to be scooping a Grammy or two next Mr. Mathers couldn't be there for the show. His typically foulmouthed cockiness came in the form of a video thanks.

nominees... Beck |  Moby |  Nelly |  Bruce Springsteen
Click here to view our EMINEM catalogue

    International Female Solo Artist... Pink

After blowing the show open with a kick-ass medley of her hits Pink found herself sheepishly accepting this award, admitting that just before she had bemoaned always being a loser. Not this time...

nominees... Missy Elliot |  Alicia Keys |  Avril Lavigne |  Norah Jones
Click here to view our PINK catalogue

International Album... EMINEM 'The Eminem Show'

It wasn't the biggest selling or even the most exciting on the shortlist but it has been Eminem's night. This time he remembered some manners and thanked the fans, promising some "f*****g good shows" when he comes to the UK later this year!

nominees... NORAH JONES 'Come Away With Me'  |  PINK 'Missundazstood' |
    | ALICIA KEYS 'Songs In A Minor'   | RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS 'By The Way'
Click here to view our EMINEM catalogue

International Group... Red Hot Chili Peppers

Very popular winners on the night, their bizarre video thanks was quite insane. The album 'By The Way' is still in Top 20s across the world and the band's upcoming tour should keep them on top through 2003.

nominees... Foo Fighters |  Nickelback |  Royksopp |  White Stripes |
Click here to view our RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS catalogue

    International Breakthrough Artist... Norah Jones

Norah is expected to win more than one Grammy but to get her in the winning ways she was crowned the International Breakthrough Artist. Her bliss inducing album 'Come Away With Me' was a strong contender for other awards too.

nominees... Norah Jones |  Avril Lavigne |  Nickelback |  Shakira |  White Stripes |

Outstanding Contribution To The Music Industry

The 2003 award for Outstanding Contribution to the Music Industry will be awarded to the Welsh wonder that is Tom Jones. After a thirty plus year career scoring #1 hits across the world and being a magnet for womans underwear he is rightly receiving this accolade.

Thomas Jones Woodward began his career in music singing as Tommy Scott with The Senators, a Welsh R&B act. In 1964 he went solo scoring his first UK #1 the next year with the classic 'It's Not Unusual'. More hits followed including 'What's New Pussycat?' and James Bond theme, 'Thunderball'.

Full EIL.COM Tom Jones Discography His amazing vocal ability and undeniable style led to many successful career changes. He has sung classic easy listening numbers such as 'Green, Green Grass Of Home' as well as more country and western releases. His worldwide status was set throughout the 1970s when his TV show 'This Is Tom Jones' was a US smash hit. Soon Las Vegas beckoned and Tom swiveled straight in amongst the top performers on the circuit. It would be some years before he hit the charts again.

Tom's chameleon-like ability to fit perfectly into any environment saw him next appear in 1988 with electronic pioneers the Art Of Noise. They recorded a cover of the Prince track 'Kiss', it's success led to the next Tom revival. World tours and TV appearances culminated in 1993 with Tom playing a fabulous show at the Glastonbury festival in England. This show cemented his status as a top perfomer with an appeal spanning the generations.

Since then he has had more hits than ever. Hit albums 'The Lead And How To Swing It' and 'Reload' both spawned Top 10 hits across the world. Now in the 2000s Tom is a national treasure and hugely respected star, we salute and celebrate you Mr. TOM JONES.

The Brits winner for Outstanding Contribution to the Music Industry couldn't have gone to a nicer man. Although if he truly is responsible for Robbie Williams' success maybe we should have a quiet word !!

Only a few years ago Tom was collecting the award for Best Male but winning this award hardly means his career is over. Anything but. A blinding rendition of some of his many hits had the audience boogeying in the aisles. No doubt many of you at home were too! A great great man who has worked with legends of our time, it is only right he should be honoured in this way.

    Brit Awards History

The BRITs have been celebrating all that is fantastic about UK music for over a quarter of a century.

The first ever Brit Awards show was held in 1977 as part of the Queen's Silver Jubilee. It was a celebration then of 25 years of the British Music Industry. Winners on the night included greats such as The Beatles and Cliff Richard.

The next awards were held five years later. They were initially known as the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) awards and that tricky name stuck for a further seven years until the first BRITs.

In it's time the show has gone from being thought of as peer recognition to being regarded as one of the international music industry's most important awards. There have been hundreds of awards handed out to many many artists. > Click here for complete official previous winners list <

One of the most enduring memories that people have of the Brits are those fabulous moments that become TV legend. Do you remember Jarvis attacking Jacko ? Did you sit through the Mick Fleetwood, Samamtha Fox nightmare ? Maybe it was the 'emerging talents' of ms.Geri Halliwell you recall !

Whatever it is that you love about the Brit Awards you can be sure there will be more controversy and amazing performances again in 2003.

Gossip & News from The Brits 2003.

Controversy stayed away from the 2003 Brits. There were no overly drunken shenanigans, hero-baiting stage invasions or pointless politician drenching (which was a shame!).

What the thousands in Earls Court and millions at home did get was the best music show ever !!!

Kicking off the ceremony in some style Pink stomped through her hits Get The Party Started and Just Like A Pill. With everyone's ears ringing it was the turn of presenter Davina McCall to whip on with the show. She wanted streakers... not quite, but the dancers who girated around with Blue for their performance had special 'Blue' pants. It raised a record exec or two's pulse if not mine...

The debates began as soon as the show finished, 'Just whose gig was the best?'....

?? Justin and Kylie in 'Rapture's ?? The fired-up 'Freak'ing Sugababes ?? Avril and her drummer bois ?? Maybe David Gray when he showed his 'Other Side' ??

None of those compared to what were the best performances of the night. The double award scooping, war protesting, genuinely nice characters of Ms Dynamite and Coldplay both astounded the crowd with their performances.

Coldplay's rendition of 'Clocks' was breathtaking. Huge lasers split the auditorium, Chris's piano took a pounding, huge lyrics spun behind the band; it was a audience silencing, pin dropping performance that if repeated at the Grammys will knock them out.

As for Ms.Dynamite, she and only she could better a performance like that of Coldplay. An instantly recognisable guitar riff started, everyone's heads nodded and it looked like we were being treated to a cover version of George Michael's 'Faith'. But as the lyrics spread it was clear that Ms. Dynamite had something to say. Backed by (and approved by) videos of George Michael the song's lyrics reflected current themes on war and poverty, urging on the planet to a better future. It was a fabulous show which gained yet more plaudits for young Naomi.
